SPTel and SpeQtral embark on Singapore’s first nationwide quantum-safe network

SPTel and SpeQtral are set to construct Singapore's inaugural nationwide quantum-safe network, NQSN+, revolutionising data security standards.

SPTel and SpeQtral have joined forces to develop the National Quantum-Safe Network Plus (NQSN+), a project by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore. This pioneering initiative marks the first step towards establishing a quantum-safe network nationwide, offering top-tier data protection for crucial governmental and commercial operations.

Harnessing quantum cryptography for enhanced security

Central to the NQSN+ project is the utilisation of quantum cryptography. This advanced method employs the unique characteristics of quantum particles for data encryption, thereby setting a new standard in security. This innovation is vital in ensuring the safe transmission of sensitive data against sophisticated cryptographic attacks.

A synergistic collaboration builds on past achievements

The decision to award the NQSN+ project to SPTel and SpeQtral is rooted in their successful past collaboration. They previously conducted promising trials in quantum-secure networks using SPTel’s diverse fibre network. SPTel’s expertise in developing secure, ultra-low latency networks complements SpeQtral’s Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology proficiency. This combination promises to create a resilient and robust NQSN+, fostering a secure digital environment in Singapore’s public and private sectors.

Titus Yong, CEO of SPTel, expressed his organisation’s commitment to driving innovation in data communications security and their readiness to set new benchmarks in data protection. Lum Chune Yang, Co-Founder and CEO of SpeQtral, highlighted the significance of their participation in the NQSN+ project, underlining its role in reinforcing Singapore’s network infrastructure security.

Towards a quantum-safe future for Singapore

Dr Ong Chen Hui from IMDA shared her enthusiasm for initiating Southeast Asia’s first quantum-safe network infrastructure. This venture is crucial to fulfilling Singapore’s ambition of becoming a quantum-safe nation, enhancing its capabilities in this burgeoning field.

Strategic partnerships and contributions

To achieve the highest data security and reliability levels for the NQSN+, SPTel and SpeQtral will collaborate with strategic industry partners, including ST Engineering for Quantum-ready encryptors and Toshiba Digital Solutions for their QKD system. These partnerships are integral to the project’s success.
