Tencent Cloud teams up with Pocketpair for game server provision

Tencent Cloud partners with Pocketpair to provide dedicated multiplayer servers for the hit game Palworld, to enhance the gaming experience.

In a significant move that marks the confluence of cloud technology and gaming innovation, Tencent Cloud has announced its partnership with Pocketpair, the developer behind the phenomenally popular PC game Palworld. This collaboration designates Tencent Cloud as the “official partner providing dedicated multiplayer servers” for the game, which has already made headlines for its groundbreaking success.

A breakthrough in gaming

Since its early access release, Palworld, often dubbed “Pokemon with guns,” has captivated the gaming community. The game’s unique blend of monster-taming and open-world survival elements, coupled with the capacity to host up to 32 players, has propelled it to unprecedented popularity. Achieving the milestone of selling over a million copies within just eight hours of its release, Palworld’s allure doesn’t seem to wane, especially with its player base already exceeding 25 million within a month.

Strained resources meet cloud solutions

However, the game’s soaring popularity has placed immense pressure on Pocketpair’s resources. The developer, a relatively small entity, has faced challenges in managing and expanding its server capacity to accommodate the ever-growing number of players. Enter Tencent Cloud’s Lighthouse service is a streamlined cloud server solution tailored for lightweight scenarios. This collaboration is set to deliver Palworld’s dedicated multiplayer servers worldwide, leveraging Metastation, Tencent Cloud’s partner based in Singapore.

Expanding horizons

Tencent Cloud’s initiative extends beyond providing server solutions. The company is poised to broaden its cloud services to build dedicated multiplayer servers across the globe, focusing not only on Japan but also on the United States and the Asia-Pacific region, including South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. This strategic move aims to enhance the gaming experience for Palworld’s vast player base, ensuring stability and scalability to match the game’s growing demands.

Palworld’s journey, from a small developer’s ambitious project to a global gaming phenomenon, exemplifies the transformative power of collaboration in the digital age. With Tencent Cloud’s support, Pocketpair is set to navigate the challenges of scaling and managing game servers, promising a smoother and more engaging experience for players worldwide.
