Veeam introduces Kasten V7.0 at Red Hat Summit 2024

Veeam launches Kasten V7.0, boosting Kubernetes data protection with enhanced security and enterprise integration at Red Hat Summit 2024.

Veeam Software has unveiled the latest iteration of its Kubernetes solution, Veeam Kasten V7.0, at this year’s Red Hat Summit. The new release enhances Kubernetes-native data protection and brings numerous security updates to support Red Hat OpenShift and Microsoft environments.

Enhancing cyber resilience and enterprise integration

The new version boasts over 30 significant updates and features, marking it as a major advancement in Kubernetes data protection. Notably, it includes compliance with the Federal Information Protection Standard (FIPS), specifically designed to meet the stringent security requirements of the federal sector environments. This feature is a first in the industry, positioning Veeam Kasten as a pioneer in secure Kubernetes data management.

The upgrade extends to comprehensive ransomware protection measures, integrating with Microsoft Sentinel to provide robust defence mechanisms. It also enhances support for enterprise applications on large-scale Kubernetes platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift, making it a versatile tool for organisations aiming to modernise and migrate their applications away from traditional on-premises setups.

Gaurav Rishi, Veeam’s Vice President of Product Management, emphasised the product’s reliability and simplicity, stating, “Veeam Kasten delivers purpose-built and secure Kubernetes native data protection and application mobility at scale across a wide range of distributions and platforms.”

Key features and security enhancements

Veeam Kasten V7.0 introduces several critical capabilities aimed at bolstering cyber resilience:

  • Cyber Resilience: It is the first Kubernetes-native data protection solution that supports FIPS-enabled clusters. Features like Azure Blob immutability and RestorePoint visibility enhance data security, along with secure authentication upgrades in Red Hat OpenShift environments.
  • Enterprise Solutions: The new version improves VM and cloud-native backups, supports Red Hat OpenShift image streams, and offers space-efficient CephFS snapshots. It also brings disaster recovery enhancements and expanded installation options, including availability on Azure Container Marketplace.

Steve Gordon, Senior Director of Product Management for Hybrid Cloud Platforms at Red Hat, highlighted the collaboration with Veeam, “Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation allows IT teams to simplify management and improve time to production by keeping existing workloads running on VMs side-by-side with containers across their full Red Hat OpenShift environment.”

Focusing on scalable, secure container use in enterprise settings, Veeam Kasten V7.0 addresses the growing demand for robust container security as Kubernetes deployment expands. Joep Piscaer, an analyst at TLA Tech and GigaOM, praised the release for providing a “rigorous, standards-compliant security environment” and broadening enterprise integrations.

Veeam will continue to feature Veeam Kasten V7.0 at the Red Hat Summit in Denver, Colorado, through demonstrations and presentations until May 9. More details about the new features and capabilities can be found on their official website.
