AMD launches EPYC 4005 series processors, offering performance and efficiency for entry-level enterprise solutions

AMD launches the EPYC 4005 Series processors, offering SMBs and IT service providers a balance of performance, efficiency, and affordability.

AMD has introduced its new EPYC 4005 Series processors, providing small and medium businesses (SMBs) and hosted IT service providers with performance-optimised, cost-effective solutions designed to meet the demands of growing enterprises. The EPYC 4005 Series is a significant step forward in offering affordable, reliable, and efficient computing platforms that support a wide range of applications, from enterprise software to virtualised environments and cloud-based services.

Targeted performance for SMBs and cloud service providers

The AMD EPYC 4005 Series processors aim to address the challenges of performance and affordability faced by SMBs and cloud hosting services. With these new processors, businesses can deploy enterprise-class solutions that are both simple to implement and budget-friendly. The processors are built on the widely-used AM5 socket, which was first introduced with the AMD EPYC 4004 Series, making them compatible with existing platforms. This allows businesses to easily transition to the new series without the need for extensive hardware upgrades.

Benchmark testing using the Phoronix test suite shows that the EPYC 4565P 16-core processor outperforms the top-tier Intel Xeon 6300P from the sixth generation by 1.83 times, further highlighting the impressive performance of the EPYC 4005 Series. Derek Dicker, corporate vice president of AMD’s Enterprise and HPC Business Group, stated, “Growing businesses and dedicated hosters often face significant constraints around budget, complexity, and deployment timelines. With the latest AMD EPYC 4005 Series CPUs, we are delivering the right balance of performance, simplicity, and affordability, giving our customers and system partners the ability to deploy enterprise-class solutions that solve everyday business challenges.”

Wide support from industry leaders

The AMD EPYC 4005 Series is supported by a range of leading technology partners and system manufacturers, including Altos, ASRock Rack, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MiTAC, MSI, New Egg, OVHcloud, Supermicro, and Vultr. These partnerships ensure that businesses will have access to a diverse range of solutions powered by the new processors, from servers to cloud infrastructure.

Lenovo, a prominent player in the enterprise infrastructure market, has praised the EPYC 4005 Series for its potential to help small businesses prepare for the growing demands of the AI era. “With AMD EPYC 4005 Series processors, Lenovo is providing tailored solutions that prepare small businesses for the AI era,” said Senthil Reddy, Executive Director of Product Management for Lenovo’s Infrastructure Solutions Group. “Together, we’re enabling cost-effective, reliable systems that provide enterprise-class features for growing businesses.”

OVHcloud also expressed its support for the new processors, highlighting their efficiency and scalability for demanding workloads. Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product and Technology Officer at OVHcloud, said, “The AMD EPYC 4005 Series CPUs deliver the compute performance and energy efficiency that our customers have come to expect, in a streamlined platform that supports cost-effective, always-on services. These solutions provide outstanding performance price ratio and scalability for innovative and demanding workloads.”

Supermicro also shared their enthusiasm for the new series, noting that it offers a compelling mix of performance, power efficiency, and flexibility. “We’re excited to expand our portfolio with systems powered by AMD EPYC 4005 Series processors,” said Vik Malyala, President & Managing Director EMEA, SVP of Technology & AI at Supermicro. “From our 3U MicroCloud multi-node platforms to our 1U and 2U mainstream server families, these solutions offer a compelling mix of performance, power efficiency, and deployment flexibility.”

A range of models for different business needs

The EPYC 4005 Series processors come in a variety of models to suit different enterprise needs. Prices for the processors start at S$239 for the 4245P model with six cores and range up to S$699 for the 4585PX model with 16 cores. The processors offer a mix of energy efficiency and high performance, featuring the latest technologies like PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory support, which enables businesses to run demanding applications at lower latency and with greater scalability.

The full range of EPYC 4005 Series models includes:

  • 4565P (16 cores, 32 threads, 64 MB L3 cache, 170W TDP) – S$589
  • 4545P (16 cores, 32 threads, 64 MB L3 cache, 65W TDP) – S$549
  • 4465P (12 cores, 24 threads, 64 MB L3 cache, 65W TDP) – S$399
  • 4345P (8 cores, 16 threads, 32 MB L3 cache, 65W TDP) – S$329
