AMD launches new EPYC 4004 series for small and medium businesses

AMD has unveiled the EPYC 4004 Series processors, tailored for small and medium businesses, featuring cost-efficient, high-performance capabilities.

AMD has introduced the EPYC 4004 Series processors, a new addition to their server CPU portfolio specifically designed for small and medium businesses and hosted IT service providers. This new lineup aims to provide cost-effective, enterprise-class performance, leveraging the advanced “Zen 4” architecture.

AMD’s strategic move to optimise costs and performance

The EPYC 4004 Series offers a strategic advantage for businesses that are price-conscious but require reliable and scalable IT solutions. According to AMD, when compared to the Intel® Xeon® E-2488 CPU, a server equipped with a single AMD EPYC 4564P CPU offers a performance increase of 1.8 times per CPU dollar. This makes the EPYC 4004 an appealing option for companies looking to maximise their investment in technology.

John Morris, Corporate Vice President at AMD’s Enterprise and HPC Business Group, emphasised the significance of this launch: “Historically, many small to medium businesses have had to compromise on their IT solutions by using hardware that doesn’t fully meet their needs. Based on the same technologies that power the most demanding data centres in the world, the AMD EPYC 4004 Series processors are offered at an optimised acquisition cost.”

Partnering for broader market reach and enhanced efficiency

The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from various AMD partners. Lenovo, a long-term collaborator with AMD, expressed excitement about the new possibilities the EPYC 4004 CPUs bring to the market. Kamran Amini, Vice President and General Manager for Server, Storage & Software Defined Solutions at Lenovo, stated, “With the introduction of AMD EPYC 4004 series CPUs, AMD is helping to address the needs of server customers across the spectrum, providing price per performance value for growing businesses along with efficiency for a dependable, secure infrastructure.”

OVHcloud and Supermicro also shared their perspectives on integrating the new AMD processors into their offerings. Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product and Technology Officer at OVHcloud, remarked on the synergy between AMD’s efficiency and OVHcloud’s commitment to sustainable solutions, enhancing data centre flexibility and performance-price ratio. Michael McNerney, SVP Marketing and Network Security at Supermicro, highlighted the increased value and ease of deployment that the EPYC 4004 CPUs bring to their server solutions.

A detailed look at the EPYC 4004 Series specifications

The EPYC 4004 Series processors range from 4 to 16 cores, with prices starting as low as US$149 for the 4-core EPYC 4124P to US$699 for the 16-core variants. These CPUs offer a mix of high base and boost clock speeds, substantial L3 cache sizes, and varying thermal design power (TDP) levels to meet diverse deployment needs. This lineup is supported by an array of partners, including Altos, ASRock Rack, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI, New Egg, OVHcloud, Supermicro, and Tyan, ensuring wide availability for different market segments.
