Samsung plans a tri-fold phone and an early Galaxy S25 FE launch in 2025

Samsung confirms plans for a tri-fold smartphone and an early launch of the Galaxy S25 FE in 2025 during its Q2 earnings call.

Samsung is preparing to end 2025 with two major smartphone launches: its long-rumoured tri-fold handset and an earlier-than-expected release of the Galaxy S25 FE. The announcements were revealed during the company’s second-quarter earnings call on 31 July 2025, where executives outlined the brand’s roadmap for the second half of the year.

Tri-fold smartphone expected this year

Speculation around a Samsung tri-fold smartphone has been circulating for years, but the company has now confirmed plans to introduce the device before the end of 2025. The move signals Samsung’s continued push to maintain its dominance in the foldable segment, following the recent launches of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7.

While the company has not disclosed specific details about the tri-fold model, the confirmation alone marks a major development in the mobile industry. The device is expected to build on Samsung’s foldable expertise by offering a more versatile form factor that could appeal to both productivity-focused users and consumers seeking an innovative design.

Galaxy S25 FE set for earlier release

Alongside the tri-fold phone, Samsung also confirmed plans to accelerate the launch of the Galaxy S25 FE. Traditionally, the Fan Edition line has arrived later in the year, but the company indicated that the upcoming model will debut ahead of its usual schedule.

During the earnings call, Daniel Araujo, Vice President of Samsung’s MX division, discussed the company’s outlook for the second half of 2025. He suggested that the Galaxy S25 FE would be brought to market sooner than expected, creating an earlier refresh cycle for the popular mid-range device.

For comparison, Samsung opened pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 FE in Singapore on 27 September 2024. Based on this timeline, the Galaxy S25 FE is expected to appear in global markets well before late September this year.

Strengthening Samsung’s market position

The decision to launch both a tri-fold phone and the Galaxy S25 FE earlier reflects Samsung’s strategy to stay ahead in a competitive smartphone landscape. The foldable segment continues to attract strong interest, and the introduction of a tri-fold design could reinforce Samsung’s image as a leader in mobile innovation. Meanwhile, moving up the release date of the Galaxy S25 FE allows the company to capture demand in the mid-tier market sooner, potentially boosting sales figures in the latter half of 2025.

The announcements come at a time when rivals are intensifying their efforts in foldable and mid-range devices. Samsung’s approach suggests it aims to secure its position across multiple price segments, ensuring relevance for both premium and budget-conscious customers.

With its tri-fold device expected before the end of the year and the Galaxy S25 FE set to arrive earlier than usual, Samsung appears determined to close 2025 on a strong note.
