BT and Equinix expand partnership to enhance global interconnectivity

BT and Equinix expand their partnership to boost interconnectivity for multinational businesses, deploying BT’s Global Fabric NaaS in 40+ Equinix data centres worldwide.

BT and Equinix have expanded their partnership to enhance interconnectivity for multinational businesses, providing seamless and secure connections across digital ecosystems. The collaboration is set to improve infrastructure, helping organisations accelerate business outcomes by making it easier to connect with partners, suppliers, and customers worldwide.

BT’s Global Fabric network-as-a-service (NaaS) platform, designed to support AI-driven applications and cloud services, has now been deployed in over 30 Equinix data centres, with plans to expand to more than 40 locations in the next year. This rollout will cover the world’s top 30 business hubs, handling 95% of global cloud interconnection traffic. When fully built out, Global Fabric will provide international coverage through 140 points of presence (PoPs) in 40 countries, offering direct access to 74% of hyperscaler cloud markets and high-bandwidth connections to over 700 data centres.

Seamless interconnectivity for businesses

As businesses increasingly rely on cloud-based applications, AI, and data-driven services, fast and secure connectivity is critical. With Global Fabric, companies can scale interconnectivity across their digital value chain, enabling real-time collaboration with third parties. Unlike traditional networks, which can take weeks to configure, Global Fabric allows instant adjustments, ensuring businesses can quickly adapt to changing demands.

The enhanced connectivity will enable organisations to optimise workloads across offices, factories, and operational sites, ensuring smooth operations in multi-cloud environments. Equinix’s Arun Dev, Global Interconnections, highlighted that the partnership gives BT customers direct access to Equinix’s global digital ecosystem, which includes over 2,000 network services, 3,000 cloud and IT services, 400 content and digital media services, and more than 4,800 enterprises.

BT’s Matt Swinden, Director of Digital Connectivity, Business, emphasised that the collaboration is a key part of BT’s strategy to provide businesses with the strongest digital foundations possible. He explained that Global Fabric, combined with Equinix’s infrastructure, gives customers more choice in where and how they interconnect their operations globally, making digital business interactions more efficient and scalable.

Strengthening digital ecosystems for the future

The partnership builds on BT Group’s ongoing collaboration with Equinix, particularly in quantum-secure communications. Last year, the companies achieved the UK’s first data centre-to-data centre connection using quantum technology, reinforcing their commitment to future-ready, secure digital solutions.

The need for such connectivity is growing rapidly. According to Equinix’s Global Interconnection Index, 80% of B2B sales interactions are expected to happen digitally by the end of 2025. Businesses integrating digital value chains effectively are already innovating 25% faster than their competitors.

By providing businesses with more reliable, flexible, and instant digital connectivity, BT and Equinix are helping organisations stay ahead in an increasingly interconnected world. With this expanded partnership, multinational businesses can operate more efficiently, scale with ease, and drive long-term digital transformation.
