A team of former Anker employees has unveiled plans for a new venture focused on redefining off-grid travel. The California-based startup, Evotrex, announced on Thursday that it had raised US$16 million in Pre-A funding to develop a hybrid recreational vehicle (RV) trailer designed to extend adventure possibilities far from conventional charging stations.
Evotrex’s mission, according to CEO Alex Xiao, is to “transform how people experience the outdoors.” The company’s founders include several key figures from Anker, although the tech accessories brand itself is not among the investors. Backers in this initial funding round include Anker’s founders, Unity Ventures, Kylinhall Partners, Vision Plus Capital, and Xstar Capital.
The new RV trailer will combine battery power with a supplementary petrol engine, allowing it to operate for days in remote areas without recharging. The company describes its concept as enabling travellers to “live rangelessly and focus on the adventure ahead instead of where to find the next charger.” Another slogan on its website reads, “Relax off-grid without ever needing to leave your base camp.”
Hybrid design promises efficiency and comfort
Evotrex’s design integrates both electric and petrol components for maximum efficiency. According to the founders, the trailer’s battery will power the cabin, onboard electronics, and electric motor. Meanwhile, the petrol engine functions primarily as a generator, recharging the battery to extend travel range.
The team claims its engine is cleaner and more efficient than conventional ones, producing less noise and using its excess heat to warm the cabin—an added benefit for extended outdoor stays.
The company’s hybrid approach comes at a time when the electric vehicle (EV) industry faces slowing growth. Research from the Pew organisation shows that 45 per cent of Americans would consider buying a hybrid vehicle, compared with only 33 per cent for a fully electric one. This shift in consumer preference has led many automakers to delay or reduce production of all-electric models.
Earlier this week, Honda’s chief executive said that recent policy changes under the Trump administration had set back electric vehicle adoption in the United States by “five years or so.” At the same time, the United Nations issued a warning that the world remains far from meeting key climate goals.
Launch set for CES 2026
Evotrex plans to reveal its hybrid RV trailer at CES 2026, one of the world’s largest technology trade shows. Pre-orders will open on 6 January, with the company aiming to deliver the first units by the end of next year.
With its blend of innovation, practicality, and focus on sustainability, Evotrex aims to appeal to a growing audience of travellers who seek both adventure and comfort without compromising on range or energy reliability.
