Square Enix has just given gamers a sneak peek into the much-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth during PlayStation’s recent State of Play event. Set to be released on February 29, 2024, this new chapter is shaping up to be a game-changer, fully utilising the power of the PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are now live on the PlayStation Store for those eager to dive in.

Nostalgia meets innovation in the new trailer

The newly released trailer had many standout moments, but one that caught many by surprise was the introduction of Cait Sith, a familiar face from the original Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix is keen to blend the old with the new, as the trailer hints at revisiting key plot elements from the iconic 1997 game. One big question on everyone’s mind is the fate of Aerith. Will Rebirth stick to the original storyline where she meets a tragic end, or will there be a twist? Fans are on the edge of their seats because this is only the second part of a trilogy.

Collectors have a treat in store

It’s not just about the game this time. PlayStation has announced a special collector’s edition loaded with goodies. Inside, you’ll find a SteelBook, a CD with the game’s soundtrack, an art book, and even a statue of the villainous Sephiroth. But what’s got everyone talking is the regular game’s cover, which features Zack Fair standing with Cloud and Sephiroth. Zack, known for his role in the prequel game Crisis Core, seems set to play a big part in this latest adventure.

Welcoming all players to the world of Rebirth

According to Yoshinori Kitase, the game’s producer, you don’t need to be a Final Fantasy veteran to enjoy Rebirth. To help newcomers catch up, a summary of the previous game will be available, ensuring everyone can get involved. Kitase has also dropped hints of a vast world waiting to be explored within the game.

It’s been nearly four years since fans were treated to the Final Fantasy VII Remake. With the release date set for February 29, 2024, the wait for the next instalment feels exciting and almost unbearable.
