Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade confirmed for Switch 2 and Xbox with a new gameplay feature

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launches on Switch 2 and Xbox in January 2026 with a new streamlined progression feature.

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on new platforms next year, bringing the celebrated role-playing game to a wider audience. Originally released on PlayStation 5 in 2021 after its debut on PlayStation 4 in 2020, this expanded edition is now making its way to Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox on PC through Xbox Play Anywhere.

This development was revealed during last week’s Nintendo Direct, marking a significant expansion for a title that has until now remained exclusive to PlayStation and PC.

A reimagining of a classic with added content

The Remake project began in 2020 with a complete reimagining of Final Fantasy VII, retelling Cloud Strife’s journey through Midgar. The Intergrade edition not only enhanced visuals and performance for the PS5 but also introduced Episode Intermission, a downloadable expansion focusing on the ninja character Yuffie Kisaragi.

The new releases on Switch 2 and Xbox will include this extra content as standard. This ensures that players on these platforms experience the most complete version of the game to date.

Introducing streamlined progression

The most surprising announcement is the addition of a new feature called Streamlined Progression. Designed to lower the difficulty barrier, it gives players the option to simplify the experience significantly.

The feature includes several adjustments, such as constantly maxed-out HP and MP, unlimited access to most items, and the ability to inflict 9,999 damage with every attack. These settings can be toggled on or off in the options menu, acting as built-in cheats.

According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, the change was introduced to make the game more flexible for different kinds of players. “I have also had personal experiences where I wanted to play something with the limited time I have, but gave up because of the time it takes to level up characters or traverse the game,” Hamaguchi explained. He noted that modern content consumption often demands flexibility, and Streamlined Progression aims to ensure players can enjoy the story regardless of their available time.

Square Enix added that the feature will benefit both newcomers who want a smoother first playthrough and long-time fans revisiting favourite moments without the grind.

Looking ahead to the trilogy’s completion

Square Enix has also confirmed that the rest of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will eventually arrive on Switch 2 and Xbox platforms. This includes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the next instalment, as well as the yet-untitled final chapter, which is still in development. Further details on these releases are expected at a later date.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC on 22 January 2026. An early purchase edition is available now on the Xbox Store at S$55.40, with a Digital Deluxe Edition priced at S$80.94. Square Enix has not yet confirmed pricing for the Switch 2 version.
