Gemini now lets you schedule AI tasks — here’s how it works

Google’s Gemini app now includes Scheduled Actions, letting users automate AI tasks and reminders within the Google ecosystem.

Google has introduced a powerful new feature to its Gemini app that could be a game-changer in virtual assistants. Starting June 7, a feature called Scheduled Actions is rolling out to some users on Android and iOS. This lets you schedule tasks for Gemini to handle automatically without having to ask each time.

From daily news summaries to weekly brainstorms or reminders for one-time events, Scheduled Actions make Gemini more proactive and useful. This update aims to save you time and help you stay more organised, especially if you’re already a part of Google’s ecosystem.

A new way to automate your day

Scheduled Actions allow you to plan and tell Gemini exactly what to do — and when. Unlike simple prompts that require you to type something each time, this feature acts like a repeating command that Gemini follows on schedule. You can ask Gemini to send you a calendar and email summary every weekday morning, provide blog post ideas every Sunday, or even remind you of specific appointments.

Once you set a recurring task, you can easily find and manage it in the Scheduled Actions section of the app’s settings. You can update, delete, or add more functions as your needs change. The goal is to create a hands-off experience that works in the background and makes daily life easier.

This takes Gemini a step closer to acting like a real assistant—one that doesn’t just respond when spoken to but actually helps manage your time and keeps you informed automatically.

Gemini closes the gap with ChatGPT

OpenAI’s ChatGPT already offers something similar with its “Tasks” feature. It allows users to schedule tasks and reminders, which can be delivered in the app and via email. However, Google’s advantage lies in how Scheduled Actions works naturally with other Google services.

Because it’s part of the Google ecosystem, Gemini can link up with Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and more. This tight integration means you don’t need any outside apps or complicated workarounds to get things done. This makes Gemini even more appealing for users who rely on Google Workspace in their daily routines.

It’s not just about setting reminders. Gemini’s Scheduled Actions can generate content ideas, provide summaries, and help keep track of important information, all at set times. That’s a significant improvement over waiting for an AI to respond to your prompt in real time.

Who can use it, and what’s next

The new feature is rolling out gradually, and for now, it’s only available to those with a Google AI Premium subscription or a Google Workspace business or education plan. If you don’t fall into one of those categories, you may not yet see the Scheduled Actions option.

Google has not given a clear date for a full rollout, but given the company’s history, it’s likely that the feature will become more widely available soon. Until then, users on basic or free plans will need to continue using alternatives like ChatGPT Tasks to automate AI responses.

Still, this update signals another step in the evolution of digital assistants. Gemini is not only catching up to competitors like ChatGPT but also offering a fresh approach by becoming more hands-off and helpful in everyday life. With Scheduled Actions, your AI assistant doesn’t just wait for instructions—it gets to work when you need it.
