Ghost of Yotei is set to launch on PS5 this October with a new trailer and details

Ghost of Yotei arrives on PS5 this October with a new trailer, a thrilling story, and multiple game editions, including exclusive extras.

If you loved Ghost of Tsushima, there’s exciting news for you. The long-awaited sequel, Ghost of Yotei, finally has a confirmed release date. You can dive into this new open-world adventure on October 2, 2025, exclusively on PlayStation 5. First revealed during Sony PlayStation’s State of Play in September 2024, this new game from Sucker Punch Productions is shaping up to be even more thrilling than its predecessor.

Alongside the announcement, a brand new gameplay trailer titled The Onryo’s List has been released, giving you a first real glimpse at what’s to come.

A tale of revenge set in Hokkaido

In Ghost of Yotei, you’ll play as Atsu, a fierce warrior with a painful past. The story takes place on the island of Ezo — known today as Hokkaido — where Atsu hunts down a dangerous group called the Yotei Six. These outlaws betrayed her family and left her for dead. Now, she’s determined to track them down one by one.

But this isn’t just a story of revenge. As you journey through the game, you’ll also meet a cast of allies who will help Atsu find a new sense of purpose beyond vengeance.

The trailer shows intense sword fighting, beautiful landscapes, and dynamic weather systems, including shifting seasons. While it’s unclear whether the weather will impact gameplay or enhance the visuals, the atmosphere looks just as immersive as Ghost of Tsushima.

New features in a bigger, wilder world

Sucker Punch has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will offer more freedom in how you explore the world. Unlike the more structured path in Ghost of Tsushima, here you’ll choose which leads to follow as you hunt down each member of the Yotei Six. You’ll also have the option to track other bounties and targets as you travel.

One new feature fans will appreciate is the ability to set up campfires anywhere in the open world. These will let you rest, recover, and prepare for the next part of your journey.

In a blog post last year, the developers hinted that this sequel would be “a far cry from the organised samurai clans” of the first game. Expect a wilder, more untamed experience as you fight across Hokkaido’s rugged landscape.

Release date, editions, and pricing

You can pre-order Ghost of Yotei starting May 2, before the October 2 launch. Pre-order bonuses include a PSN avatar set featuring Atsu and the Yotei Six and an exclusive in-game mask.

When it launches, the game will be available in several editions:

  • Standard Edition – priced at US$97.90
  • Digital Deluxe Edition – US$107, includes special in-game items and early access to the Traveler’s Maps, which help you find upgrade statues.
  • Collector’s Edition – includes real-world replicas of Atsu’s Ghost mask and her sash marked with the names of the Yotei Six, as well as all content from the Digital Deluxe Edition and the pre-order bonuses.

While the Collector’s Edition price hasn’t been confirmed yet, fans can expect it to be a premium package with physical collectables.

For now, the game is exclusive to PlayStation 5, and no announcements about availability on other platforms have been made. For future updates and trailers, visit the official PlayStation page.
