Google is set to merge Keep reminders with Tasks in a streamlined update

Google announces the integration of Keep reminders into Tasks, aiming to simplify task management across its apps.

In an update that many have been eagerly awaiting, Google has announced that reminders created in Google Keep will soon be integrated into Google Tasks. This significant shift, planned to roll out over the next year, aims to centralise all reminders and to-dos within Google’s productivity apps, including Tasks, Calendar, and Assistant.

For years, users have used Google Keep to jot down reminders quickly. However, managing these across multiple platforms has been less than ideal. With the upcoming changes, Google intends to make Tasks the primary hub for all such reminders, potentially simplifying how users manage their day-to-day tasks.

The move was hinted at last year following enhancements to the Google Keep app. David Pierce, a tech analyst, had pointed out the potential improvement, stating, “Now, Google, make Keep reminders show up in Tasks. It’s right there!” It seems Google has taken this suggestion to heart, aiming to enhance the user experience by consolidating these features.

Despite the integration, Google has confirmed that while Tasks does not currently support location-based reminders—a feature available in Keep—users will still be able to set such reminders in Keep notes. This ensures that the functionality of Keep is not lost but rather enhanced through its integration with tasks.

Over the past year, Google has been focused on improving the utility of its Tasks application, described by some as “finally kind of good.” The integration of reminders from both Assistant and Calendar into Tasks started in March 2023, and the addition of Keep reminders is expected to further this development.

A more practical productivity tool

The integration is part of Google’s broader strategy to streamline its suite of productivity tools, making them more user-friendly and effective. By merging Keep reminders into Tasks, Google not only responds to user feedback but also enhances the practicality of its applications for managing personal and professional tasks.

This update is eagerly anticipated by many who seek a more integrated and straightforward approach to handling their daily schedules and reminders across Google’s platforms.
