PlayStation 5 Pro: Leaked specs hint at a gaming revolution

Leaked specs of the PS5 Pro suggest major upgrades including a faster CPU, increased memory bandwidth, and groundbreaking visuals.

The gaming community is abuzz with the latest whispers about the PlayStation 5 Pro, with leaks suggesting some exciting enhancements over the original PS5 model. Thanks to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, a name you might remember from the PlayStation 5 ‘Slim’ leaks, let’s dive into what’s been making rounds.

Upgraded hardware for enhanced performance

At the heart of the PS5 Pro rumours is that Sony isn’t veering far from the silicon that brought the PS5 to life. However, a notable tweak of a “High CPU Frequency Mode” could see the CPU’s power surge by 10 per cent, pushing it up to 3.85GHz. This boost doesn’t come without a trade-off, as it’s said to dial back GPU performance by 1.5 percent slightly.

Memory capabilities are also on the upgrade list, with the PS5 Pro’s bandwidth reportedly jumping from 448GB/s to an impressive 576 GB/s. Such an increase not only signifies a more efficient system memory but could also mean that the console will better handle the demands of more intensive games, providing a smoother gaming experience.

A leap in visual rendering

Visuals are where the PS5 Pro is expected to shine genuinely. Leaks suggest that the console could render graphics 45 per cent faster than its predecessor, boasting up to four times faster performance in ray-tracing. This is attributed to the AMD custom RDNA 4 GPU at its core. Additionally, the introduction of PlayStation Spectral Resolution Upscaling (PSSR) – an AI-assisted upscaling and antialiasing technology – hints at a significant leap forward in visual fidelity, possibly setting a new benchmark in the gaming industry.

Shared features and forward-looking tech

Echoing the design choices of the PS5 Slim, the PS5 Pro is also rumoured to come with a detachable disc drive and a 1TB SSD, ensuring ample storage space for games and media. This blend of new tech with familiar features suggests that Sony is keen on maintaining a degree of continuity across its console range while also pushing the envelope in gaming performance and visual quality.

In conclusion, while these details remain unofficial until Sony confirms them, the potential of the PS5 Pro has already sparked excitement among gamers and industry watchers alike. The prospect of enhanced performance, alongside groundbreaking visual capabilities, positions the PS5 Pro as a potentially transformative force in the next generation of gaming.
