Samsung halts global One UI 7 update after serious bug found

Samsung halts its global One UI 7 update rollout due to a bug that locks Galaxy S24 users out of their phones.

Samsung has paused the release of its One UI 7 software update worldwide due to a major issue preventing some Galaxy S24 users from unlocking their phones.

A bug stops users from accessing their phones

You might have been looking forward to the new One UI 7 update, especially with all the AI upgrades and Android 15 features. But if you haven’t received it yet, you’re not alone. Samsung has put the brakes on the global rollout after users in South Korea started reporting a serious bug. The issue seems to affect Galaxy S24 handsets, with some users unable to unlock their phones after installing the update.

Well-known tech leaker Ice Universe was the first to report the problem, describing it as a “serious bug.” Although the bug appears limited to South Korean devices, Samsung has decided to pause the rollout for everyone, no matter where you are or which Galaxy model you use. This is likely a precaution to avoid wider issues.

Update pulled from Samsung’s servers

If you’ve already downloaded the One UI 7 update, you might be wondering what’s going on. Using the app CheckFirm, users have noticed that Samsung has quietly removed the new update from its servers. It no longer appears as the most recent firmware version for various Galaxy phones. Instead, older versions have taken its place. This suggests that the update is on hold while Samsung investigates the issue.

Moreover, Samsung hasn’t made an official statement confirming the pause or explaining the next steps. There’s also no word yet on whether there will be a fix or patch for those who installed the update and are facing problems. At this stage, it’s unclear how many users are affected or when the update might return. Samsung has been contacted for comment, but no reply has been received.

Update rollout and previous delays

The One UI 7 update first began rolling out on April 7. It was initially released for Samsung’s newest high-end devices, including the Galaxy S24, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6. Users in the United States started receiving it on April 10. By then, the software had already been available on the Galaxy S25 range, which launched in February with One UI 7 pre-installed.

This pause comes after Samsung had already faced delays in bringing One UI 7 to older phones. Android 15, the base of this update, was made available to developers seven months ago. Samsung then released its latest flagship Galaxy S25 phones, which ran the software two months before the update was made available to earlier models.

With this latest setback, Galaxy users will likely have to wait a bit longer for the full benefits of One UI 7. Until Samsung provides a fix or an update on the situation, it’s best to hold off on installing the update, even if it becomes available again.
