Ayaneo unveils the Next II, a powerful handheld with a 9-inch display

Ayaneo reveals the Next II handheld with a 9-inch OLED display, a Ryzen AI Max+ chip, and advanced controls, aimed at high-end gamers.

Ayaneo has introduced the Next II, a large and powerful Windows gaming handheld that reflects the company’s continued commitment to high-end design. While Ayaneo has recently explored more affordable options, the Next II returns to the bold, oversized style that has defined its premium lineup. Positioned as a direct answer to bulky competitors like the Legion Go 2, the device offers top-tier specifications for enthusiasts seeking maximum performance in a portable form factor.

A focus on size and display performance

The Next II follows the design language of Ayaneo’s Next series, prioritising large screens and powerful hardware. Its defining feature is a 9.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,504. The display supports a variable refresh rate from 60 to 165 Hz, allowing players to balance smooth motion and battery efficiency depending on the game.

Inside, the handheld runs on the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 chip, a processor built to handle demanding modern titles. To sustain such performance, Ayaneo equipped the device with a large 115 Wh battery. Although the company has not yet shared any official battery life figures, the combination of high-end hardware and a large, bright display suggests typical usage is unlikely to last an entire day on a single charge.

Advanced controls inspired by previous models

To support its powerful internals, the Next II includes upgraded control features designed for precision and durability. The handheld uses Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, explicitly chosen to avoid dead zones and stick drift over time. This technology is becoming increasingly common in premium handhelds, and Ayaneo has adopted it to appeal to competitive and long-term players.

The device also inherits several features from the Ayaneo Kun, the company’s previous flagship model. These include dual smart touchpads that support gesture controls and custom key mapping. Players can tailor these touchpads for navigation, shortcuts, or specialised gameplay functions. On the back of the handheld, Ayaneo has added four physical buttons, and users can assign separate actions to an additional four customisable buttons, providing a wide range of control options for complex games.

Pricing expectations and premium positioning

Ayaneo has not yet announced official pricing for the Next II. However, early expectations suggest that the device will cater to buyers willing to invest heavily in a high-end handheld gaming system. The company’s earlier premium model, the Ayaneo Kun, could reach a fully upgraded price of US$1,700. Based on this, the Next II may approach a cost closer to US$2,000, placing it firmly in the luxury tier of portable gaming hardware.

As the handheld gaming market continues to expand, Ayaneo appears committed to offering devices that push the limits of portable performance. The Next II aims to deliver powerful specifications, customisable controls, and a large, high-quality display, making it a strong option for players who prioritise top-level capability over compact size.
