StarHub launches low latency data centre connect for seamless cloud access

StarHub launches a new low latency connectivity service in Singapore, enhancing business operations with advanced features and strategic partnerships.

StarHub has introduced its Low Latency Data Centre Connect, a pioneering service designed to provide secure, on-demand connectivity tailored to the escalating digital needs of local and regional businesses. This service facilitates ultra-low latency connections to data centres, significantly enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of cloud services.

Ultra-low latency to boost business operations

“The need for low latency data centre connectivity has never been more pronounced. Low latency for cloud services is crucial for real-time data processing, faster application responsiveness, and seamless user experiences, particularly in time-sensitive operations and interactive applications,” said Tan Kit Yong, Head of Enterprise Business Group at StarHub. He further elaborated that the Low Latency Data Centre Connect equips businesses to meet growing digital demands with vital flexibility, security, and scalability.

Advanced features and technological integration

The service boasts a plethora of sophisticated features. It offers data centre interconnectivity with latency under 1ms to cable landing stations, ensuring lightning-fast communications. Additionally, it incorporates advanced software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities through an integrated self-service portal, which supports network slicing, on-demand bandwidth scaling, and a multi-tenancy portal. These functionalities grant enterprises comprehensive observability, real-time monitoring, and troubleshooting from a unified control panel, facilitating rapid adaptation to changing needs.

Moreover, the service includes quantum secure communications, enhancing the security measures for cloud connectivity and protecting sensitive data. Automated service orchestration enables quick provisioning and streamlined operations across various systems and platforms, complemented by dynamic bandwidth scalability.

Expanding through strategic collaborations

In May, StarHub launched the Low Latency Data Centre Connect in partnership with Global Switch, setting up the first point-of-presence (POP). This initial deployment allows Global Switch customers in Singapore to access secure, on-demand connectivity to a global network of significant data centre ecosystems and submarine cable POPs, ensuring seamless integration.

Building upon this initial collaboration, StarHub is broadening its network ecosystem by partnering with Ciena, Digital Realty, and Terrabit Networks. Utilising Ciena’s 800G encryption on Waveserver 5, this expansion enables StarHub to connect multiple data centres with ultra-low latency, thereby providing unparalleled access to cloud services and applications.

“With a flexible, scalable and secure network foundation from Ciena, StarHub is able to provide its customers with unrivalled connectivity by way of its Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) service. It is also notable to highlight that Ciena’s DCI solution provides inherent resistance to the threat of quantum computer attacks against key exchange algorithms,” said Matt Vesperman, Regional Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Ciena.

“This collaboration between StarHub and Digital Realty strengthens our Singapore campus as a strategic interconnection hub by providing customers with ultra-low latency connectivity to our strategically located data centres, ensuring optimal performance and reliability,” said Govind Choudhary, Vice President of Strategy & Business Development, Asia Pacific, at Digital Realty.
