Veeam announces support for Proxmox VE at VeeamON 2024 event

Veeam Software announces support for Proxmox VE to boost data management and cyber resilience, to be showcased at VeeamON 2024 from June 3-5 in Florida and online.

Veeam Software, a leader in Data Protection and Ransomware Recovery by market share, today announced its support for Proxmox VE, a development much anticipated by its small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers and service providers. This new functionality will be unveiled live at VeeamON 2024, scheduled for June 3-5, 2024 at the Diplomat Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and online.

Enhancing cyber resiliency and promoting data freedom

The initiative is a strategic step by Veeam to enhance technological flexibility and cyber resiliency for organisations, underpinning the principle of ‘Data Freedom’. This allows businesses to select their optimal business platforms and applications, ensuring that data can be securely managed, moved, and recovered across various environments.

“When we talk with customers, one of their most common questions is how they can move between their preferred platforms both in the cloud and on-premises. It is why Veeam champions Data Freedom – giving customers the ability to move to new platforms with the peace of mind we provide through data protection and cyber recovery,” said John Jester, Chief Revenue Officer at Veeam.

This introduction follows the recent launch of support for Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager, further extending the reach of the Veeam Data Platform, which already supports a variety of environments, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Red Hat Virtualization, and major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

Key features of the Proxmox VE support

Proxmox VE users will gain from a suite of new features aimed at improving data security and management efficiency:

  • Immutable backups: These protect Proxmox VE VMs’ on-premises and cloud backups from threats like ransomware, accidental deletions, or malicious actions. They offer options for storage-based immutability or true airgap solutions using tape and rotated drives.
  • Uncompromised backup performance: This feature enables faster and more efficient VM backups, reducing disruptions to operations, thanks to advanced changed block tracking (CBT) integration and hot add backup mode.
  • Veeam BitLooker: This smart feature enhances backup performance by automatically excluding unused disk blocks, such as those from deleted guest OS files, thereby conserving valuable storage space.
  • Storage flexibility: Veeam Backup & Replication supports all backup repository types, including hardened repositories and object storage. Customers can customize their backup repositories to meet specific recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) within their budget.
  • Full VM recovery: Allows for the quick restoration of VMs from major virtualization platforms and public clouds to Proxmox VE, improving uptime and productivity.
  • Advanced granular recovery capabilities: These capabilities enable the swift recovery of changed and deleted files, essential for maintaining business continuity in the event of data loss or disruptions.

“Veeam’s upcoming support for Proxmox is a testament to the customer value delivered by Proxmox VE during this time of market transformation,” said Martin Maurer, CEO of Proxmox.

VeeamON 2024 will also feature the first live hands-on demonstration of Proxmox VE backup and showcase the latest trends in data protection and ransomware recovery. The event is supported by an impressive array of sponsors, including ExaGrid, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lenovo, Microsoft, Backblaze, Hitachi, Pure Storage, Scality, and Wasabi, among others.
