Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra: A powerful 4-door EV with record-breaking speed

Discover Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra, a 4-door EV boasting over 1,500hp and speeds rivalling top electric cars, with 0-100km/h in under two seconds.

Xiaomi is pushing boundaries with its latest innovation in electric vehicles, the SU7 Ultra. This high-performance model is a four-door electric saloon with stunning power, advanced technology, and a focus on setting speed records. Introduced as an upgrade to Xiaomi’s initial SU7 model, the SU7 Ultra is not only built to rival high-end electric cars like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. Still, it is also designed to achieve unprecedented speeds for a production vehicle. Here’s a look at how Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra is changing the game in electric car performance.

Groundbreaking power and speed

With the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi has introduced a car built for speed. The vehicle’s three electric motors generate a combined power output of 1,548 PS, translating to over 1,500 horsepower—more than 2.6 times the power of Xiaomi’s earlier SU7 Max model. This power level enables the SU7 Ultra to reach 0-100 km/h in a breathtaking 1.98 seconds. The impressive acceleration isn’t limited to initial speeds; the SU7 Ultra can also reach 0-200 km/h in just 5.86 seconds and has a top speed of 350 km/h.

To achieve such outstanding performance, Xiaomi has re-engineered the SU7 Ultra with specific enhancements to improve speed and handling. These include a widened front and rear track, a lowered body, and specialised aerodynamic elements such as front splitters, air curtains, a rear wing, and an active rear diffuser. These features help the SU7 Ultra produce up to 285 kg of downforce, giving it better stability and handling at high speeds.

High-performance brakes and advanced suspension

With the immense power of the SU7 Ultra comes the need for equally powerful brakes and suspension systems to ensure safety and control. Xiaomi partnered with Akebono to develop a high-performance braking system featuring six-piston callipers at the front and four at the rear. The brakes use ceramic rotors, known for their heat and wear resistance, and the front discs are a substantial 430 mm in size, providing powerful stopping capability at high speeds.

With the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi offers two suspension options: dual-chamber air springs or traditional coilovers. The air springs option provides:

  • Adaptive damping.
  • Delivering a balance of comfort and performance.
  • Making it suitable for daily driving.

The Coilover option, designed in collaboration with Bilstein, uses the EVO T1 kit, which offers 10 levels of adjustability. This configuration is ideal for track enthusiasts who want maximum control and customisation in handling.

The SU7 Ultra boasts a sporty interior, complete with racing-style seats designed for extra support during high-speed driving. The steering wheel is finished with carbon fibre and Alcantara, adding a luxurious yet sporty touch.

Record-breaking track performance and impressive range

The SU7 Ultra isn’t just about speed on paper; it’s already making waves on the track. A modified version of this model recently set a record lap time of 6 minutes and 46.874 seconds on the Nürburgring, known as one of the world’s most challenging racing circuits. Although this time won’t be a production record since a prototype set it, Xiaomi has confirmed its ambition to pursue an official record for producing four-door electric cars. Currently, the fastest time for a production four-door car is held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, with a lap time of 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds.

Despite its high performance, the SU7 Ultra doesn’t compromise on range. It is tested under the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) and delivers an estimated 630 km on a single charge. Moreover, the SU7 Ultra supports fast charging from 10% to 80% in 11 minutes, ensuring drivers can return to the road quickly.

If you’re eager to experience Xiaomi’s latest innovation, the SU7 Ultra is now available for pre-order. Deliveries are expected to begin in March 2025, with prices starting at 814,900 yuan (approximately S$151,059). Xiaomi’s entry into the electric vehicle market with the SU7 Ultra marks a bold statement, signalling its commitment to combining high performance, technology, and innovation to challenge established players in the EV world.
