Alibaba Cloud named a GenAI leader in Omdia’s latest Asia and Oceania report

Alibaba Cloud named GenAI leader in Omdia’s Asia & Oceania 2025 report, topping seven of nine categories for innovation and adoption.

Alibaba Cloud has been named a leader in Omdia’s latest report, “Market Radar: GenAI Cloud Titans in Asia & Oceania 2025,” recognising the company’s growing influence in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) across the region. The report places Alibaba Cloud in the “Leader” quadrant among nine global vendors, based on its strong GenAI capabilities and product offerings.

Out of nine evaluated categories, Alibaba Cloud received the highest “Advanced” rating in seven, leading all other vendors in this regard. The assessment covered areas such as foundation models, infrastructure, deployment platforms, security, and community engagement.

Strength in full-stack GenAI solutions

According to Omdia, Alibaba Cloud has distinguished itself by offering a complete stack of GenAI technologies. This includes its proprietary foundation models, GenAI development platforms, and advanced infrastructure. Through Model Studio and Platform for AI (PAI), the company enables developers and enterprises to build and deploy GenAI applications in a streamlined and scalable manner.

Its infrastructure is further strengthened by the PAI-Lingjun Intelligent Computing Service, supporting enterprise-level applications. Omdia’s analysts noted that Alibaba Cloud’s integration of technology and usability positions it as a key player in the global GenAI space.

Jingren Zhou, Chief Technology Officer of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, said, “GenAI has captured the imagination of businesses in Asia and around the world, and we are grateful to be recognised for our leadership in helping companies implement its capabilities. Our commitment to open source is central to this, driving innovation through one of the largest AI ecosystems in the world. As we accelerate into the AI era, we want to make it as easy as possible for companies to harness the power of this technology and will continue to enhance our model family and solutions to ensure they have the support they need to thrive.”

Commitment to open-source AI and model adoption

Since August 2023, Alibaba Cloud has released more than 200 advanced AI models to the open-source community. Its Qwen model family, in particular, has gained significant traction, surpassing 400 million downloads across Hugging Face and ModelScope. Over 140,000 models have been built on Qwen by third-party developers, making it one of the most widely adopted AI model series globally.

The popularity of Qwen is also reflected in its widespread use among enterprise customers. By January 2025, over 290,000 businesses in sectors such as robotics, healthcare, finance, education, and automotive had integrated Qwen models through Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio platform. This wide adoption highlights the growing demand for GenAI-powered digital transformation in China and beyond.

Regional GenAI market continues to expand

Omdia’s report estimates that GenAI software revenue in Asia and Oceania will reach US$5.5 billion in 2025, with the market projected to grow more than fourfold to US$19.8 billion by 2029. Currently, 27% of enterprises in the region have deployed GenAI solutions, while another 33% are running pilot projects within at least one business function.

This growth underscores the accelerating interest in GenAI technologies across industries and the increasing role of cloud providers like Alibaba Cloud in enabling scalable, real-world applications.
