Analogue’s 4K Nintendo 64 console launches in early 2025 for US$249

Analogue’s 4K Nintendo 64 console, priced at US$249, will launch in early 2025. Preorders will start on October 21st, and it will offer classic games in 4K.

Analogue is gearing up to release its long-awaited take on the Nintendo 64, but you’ll have to wait a little longer than initially planned. The new console, the Analogue 3D, is set to launch in the first quarter of 2025, with a price tag of US$249.99. You can choose from either black or white versions, with preorders starting on October 21st at 11 AM ET.

A modern twist on the classic N64

First announced at the beginning of the year, the Analogue 3D promises to bring a fresh experience to classic N64 games. Similar to Analogue’s previous consoles for the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy, this new console offers a modern touch while maintaining the authenticity of the original hardware. The Analogue 3D will allow you to enjoy your favourite N64 games in crisp 4K resolution, providing multiple display modes to replicate the classic CRT television look that many gamers fondly remember.

According to Analogue, the system has been crafted with a bespoke 4K upscale, allowing for a faithful recreation of these classic games with the best visual quality possible. Whether you want to relive your N64’s golden era or experience it for the first time, the Analogue 3D will give you a sharper, more detailed gaming experience without losing that nostalgic feel.

100% compatibility with original cartridges

One of the key features of the Analogue 3D is its full compatibility with the entire N64 cartridge library, meaning you won’t have to hunt down rare digital copies. The console is also region-free, so you can play games from anywhere in the world without any trouble. This is made possible by FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology, which allows the console to work just like the original hardware, delivering a more accurate experience than typical emulators. This is a big plus for the N64, as it has been known to be tricky to emulate properly.

On the hardware side, the console offers plenty of connectivity options, including four original controller ports, two USB ports, an SD card slot, and Bluetooth support. This makes it versatile enough for modern gaming setups while still compatible with your old N64 gear.

There is no controller, but accessories are available

While the Analogue 3D doesn’t come with a controller, an updated version of the N64 gamepad is available, created by 8bitdo. This updated controller, priced at US$39.99, keeps the familiar shape but ditches the infamous third prong from the original N64 controller. It also features a Hall effect stick, providing smoother and more precise control. The 8-bit controller is also compatible with devices like the Switch, Android, and PC, making it a great all-rounder. Alternatively, if you still have your old N64 controllers, you can plug those straight into the Analogue 3D and start playing immediately.

The announcement of the Analogue 3D comes at an exciting time for video game hardware. As Sony prepares to launch the PS5 Pro and Nintendo has its own new console on the horizon, the Analogue 3D offers a nostalgic yet enhanced option for retro gaming enthusiasts. Whether you’re keen to revisit the classics or try out some hidden gems, the Analogue 3D will be one to watch when it hits the market early next year.
