Apple adds new recipes section to its News app

Apple is adding a new recipes section to its News app, offering News Plus subscribers access to thousands of recipes and curated food stories.

Apple is introducing a dedicated recipes section in its News app, offering exclusive access to News Plus subscribers. The new feature, called Apple News Plus Food, will launch with iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 in April and bring users a wide collection of recipes and food-related content.

A new way to explore recipes

With Apple News Plus Food, you will have access to “tens of thousands of recipes” from some of the most well-known food publishers in the world. Apple has partnered with popular sources, including Allrecipes, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Good Food, and Serious Eats, to bring a rich selection of dishes straight to your device.

The recipes will be presented in a visually appealing format, making scanning through ingredients and following step-by-step instructions easy. A new ‘cook mode’ will also be available, allowing you to switch to a full-screen view for guided cooking, making it more convenient to follow recipes without distractions.

More than just recipes

Beyond the extensive recipe collection, Apple News Plus Food will feature curated food stories that Apple’s editorial team selected. These stories will include insights on cooking techniques, food trends, and expert tips from renowned chefs and culinary writers.

While most of the content will be available exclusively to News Plus subscribers, Apple has confirmed that select stories and recipes will be accessible to all News app users. This means that even if you don’t subscribe to News Plus, you will still get a taste of what the new section offers.

Competing with major publishers

Adding a food section strengthens Apple News as a competitor to other major digital publishers, particularly The New York Times, which has long offered a collection of recipes through its main app. Apple is gradually expanding its content offerings within the News Plus subscription, which already includes access to games like crossword puzzles and sudoku.

By integrating a recipe platform into its News app, Apple is enhancing its appeal to users who enjoy cooking and food-related content. Whether looking for quick meal ideas or gourmet recipes, this new feature aims to make cooking more accessible and engaging for everyone.
