Garmin launches Approach S50 smartwatch with advanced golf tracking

Garmin releases the Approach S50 golf smartwatch, featuring GPS course tracking, fitness monitoring, and smart connectivity for golfers.

Garmin has introduced the Approach S50, a new GPS golf smartwatch designed to help players refine their game with advanced tracking and health monitoring features. The lightweight, slim design and high-contrast AMOLED display provide golfers with essential data, including course mapping and shot distance measurement.

The watch comes preloaded with more than 43,000 golf course maps worldwide and includes features such as hazard view and distance tracking to the front, middle, and back of the green. The 15-hour battery life in GPS mode ensures extended usability during play.

Scoppen Lin, Assistant General Manager at Garmin Asia, highlighted the watch’s capabilities, stating, “We’re thrilled to expand our golf lineup with the Approach S50, an exceptional smartwatch designed for golfers who want invaluable information to help improve their game from the tee box to the green. Not only will you have features to help you perform your best on the course, but the sophisticated design will help you look like a champion off the course as well.”

Smart features for golf and daily use

The Approach S50 includes PlaysLike distance, which adjusts shot measurements based on elevation changes. A built-in heart rate sensor provides fitness tracking, while additional wellness features support overall health management.

Key features include:

  • Heart rate monitoring: Tracks heart rate, stress, and sleep patterns.
  • Fitness modes: Offers strength training, yoga, and cardio exercises to improve flexibility and endurance.
  • Morning Report: Provides an overview of sleep, training status, and weather.
  • Body Battery energy monitoring: Helps users track energy levels throughout the day.
  • Fitness age assessment: Estimates a user’s fitness level compared to their actual age.
  • Women’s health tracking: Supports menstrual and pregnancy tracking with personalised recommendations.

The watch also supports Garmin Pay for contactless payments, along with music streaming via Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer. A ComfortFit Nylon strap is designed for all-day wearability.

The smartwatch integrates with other Garmin golf accessories to enhance gameplay:

  • Automatic club tracking: Pairs with Approach CT10 club tracking tags for real-time shot data.
  • Laser range finder support: Syncs with the Approach Z30 for precise distance measurements.
  • Performance tracking: Connects to the Garmin Golf app for detailed statistics and handicap calculations.
  • Premium membership features: Users can access Enhanced CourseView Maps, Green Contours, and Touch Targeting through a Garmin Golf Membership (S$14.48/month or S$144.98/year).

The Approach S50 is available for purchase at Garmin Brand Stores, Lazada, Shopee, the Garmin Online Store, Takashimaya, and authorised retailers for S$609.
