Apple may launch an AI-powered Health app with a coaching feature next year

Apple may introduce an AI-powered Health app with coaching, food tracking, and fitness guidance in 2026, possibly as a new subscription service.

Apple is reportedly working on a major upgrade to its Health app, which could include an AI-powered coaching feature and a food-tracking tool. The new version will be available in spring or summer 2026 as part of the iOS 19.4 update.

AI health coaching and expert guidance

Codenamed Project Mulberry, the revamped Health app aims to offer personalised health insights by analysing data collected from your iPhone and Apple Watch. The AI-powered health coach will interpret your health trends, explain potential conditions, and offer video-based recommendations.

Apple has reportedly trained the AI using data from its medical professionals. The company plans to bring in specialists in nutrition, physical therapy, mental health, and cardiology to enhance the app’s credibility. In addition, Apple is working with external doctors to develop educational videos accompanying the app’s health recommendations.

Food tracking and fitness guidance

One key feature expected in the updated Health app is food tracking. The AI health coach could suggest diet plans based on your eating habits, helping you make healthier choices. This feature would put Apple in direct competition with popular food and nutrition tracking apps.

For those who prioritise fitness, Apple plans to enhance workout tracking by enabling the iPhone camera to assess your exercise form. This feature ensures you are performing movements correctly and reduces the risk of injury. Integrating this tool with Apple Fitness+ could offer a more comprehensive approach to guided workouts.

A new subscription service?

Apple is reportedly considering branding the new Health app and its features as “Health+,” positioning it as a subscription service. If this happens, it will join Apple’s existing lineup of paid services, such as Apple TV+, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, iCloud+, Apple Music, and Apple Arcade.

Apple’s Services division, which includes all subscription-based offerings, is the company’s second-largest revenue generator after the iPhone. With iPhone sales slowing, Apple increasingly focuses on expanding its digital services to drive growth.
