Apple unveils macOS Tahoe with smarter tools and a new look

Apple reveals macOS Tahoe, which will be released this autumn and feature a fresh design, iPhone link upgrades, and smarter Spotlight tools.

Apple has announced its next big Mac update — macOS Tahoe — at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10. The new version brings a fresh design, improved iPhone connectivity, and smart updates powered by Apple Intelligence.

Here’s what you can look forward to when macOS Tahoe arrives.

A sleek new design with personal touches

One of the most noticeable changes in macOS Tahoe is the “Liquid Glass” design. It gives your screen a smooth, shiny, and slightly see-through appearance — much like polished glass. This visual style matches the new look introduced in iOS 26 and makes your Mac feel more modern and polished.

Another big update is the ability to customise your folder icons. You can now choose any colour for your folders — pink, green, blue, or anything else you like. This small feature brings fun and personality to your desktop while helping you organise files more easily.

Better iPhone and Mac connection

macOS Tahoe makes your Mac work even better with your iPhone. You’ll have a Phone app on your Mac for the first time. This allows you to create and receive calls from your computer. It also includes smart features already on the iPhone, such as Call Screening and Hold Assist.

Live Activities from your iPhone — like tracking a delivery or checking your ride’s status — will also appear on your Mac. You’ll see the same real-time updates on your iPhone’s lock screen or Dynamic Island, now directly on your Mac.

You’ll also be able to use Live Translation across the Phone, FaceTime, and Messages apps. This means you can converse with people in different languages more easily.

Spotlight becomes more powerful and helpful

Spotlight, the Mac’s built-in search tool, is getting much smarter thanks to Apple Intelligence. It will now show results based on what you’re likely searching for, what you’ve done recently, or what’s on your screen. This saves time and makes it easier to find what you need.

You’ll also be able to take actions directly from Spotlight. During Apple’s demo, they showed how to write and send an email without opening the Mail app. You type it all into Spotlight, and it sends.

There’s a new feature called Quick Keys as well. You can set short letter combinations to trigger actions. For example, “AR” could add a reminder, and “SM” could send a message. It’s a simple way to work faster.

Other features from iOS 26 are also coming to macOS Tahoe. These include Genmoji (create your emojis), Image Playground (a fun visual creation tool), smart reminders, a new Apple Games app, polls and custom backgrounds in Messages, a new FaceTime landing page, and the Journal app to help you track your thoughts and moods.

macOS Tahoe will be released this autumn. A public beta version will be available next month, and developers already have early access.
