Asus unveils US$4,000 ProArt P16 with 4K tandem OLED and RTX 5090

Asus launches its ProArt P16 laptop with a 4K tandem OLED, RTX 5090 GPU, and creator-focused features, priced from US$1,999.

Asus has announced a major refresh of its ProArt P16 laptop, aimed at professional creators who need top-tier performance and display quality. The new flagship model comes equipped with Nvidia’s RTX 5090 mobile GPU and a 16-inch 3840 x 2400 tandem OLED touchscreen that reaches up to 1,600 nits of brightness in HDR. The screen also supports a 120Hz refresh rate with variable refresh rate (VRR), making it suitable for both demanding creative work and smooth visual experiences.

The device will launch internationally in mid-October and in the United States in December, with a price tag of US$3,999.99 at Best Buy and directly from Asus.

Detailed specifications and design

Alongside the RTX 5090 GPU, the ProArt P16 features AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, the same chip used in the 2024 model. It also comes with 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 4TB of SSD storage, achieved through two 2TB NVMe drives. For connectivity, the laptop includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, ensuring strong wireless performance.

The P16 offers a wide selection of ports, such as one 40Gbps USB4, one 10Gbps USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, two 10Gbps USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI 2.1, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an SD Express 7.0 card slot.

At 14.9mm thick and weighing 1.95kg, the laptop is slim and relatively light for its class. Its design bears a resemblance to the 16-inch MacBook Pro, with an all-black finish and a strong focus on creators. The P16 is also closely related to Asus’ ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop, though it has been reworked to suit creative professionals.

Thermal management remains a consideration, as the P16’s GPU is rated for up to 120W total graphics power (TGP), with Nvidia stating it can potentially reach 150W. This suggests there could be some thermal throttling under hefty workloads, as has been observed in the Zephyrus series.

Options for different budgets

Asus has tailored the ProArt P16 line-up to suit different price points. The flagship RTX 5090 model sits at the top, but more affordable options are available.

The entry-level 2024 configuration, which features an RTX 4060, will remain on sale for US$1,999.99. For those looking at the 2025 models, there are mid-range options including versions with RTX 5070 and 5080 GPUs. The RTX 5070 variant, starting at US$2,499.99, comes with the same AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, 32GB of RAM, 2TB SSD storage, and a 4K OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. While it lacks the tandem OLED technology and higher refresh rates of the flagship, it still provides strong performance for creative tasks.

Asus has also added creator-focused touches, such as the inclusion of its DialPad, a ring-shaped dial built into the trackpad. This feature is designed to give creators more precise control over tools in applications like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

With its combination of high-end processing power, premium display technology, and thoughtful design features, the ProArt P16 is positioned as a serious Windows alternative to Apple’s MacBook Pro for professionals in design, video editing, and other creative fields.
