Commvault simplifies cloud security with CIS-hardened images for major cloud platforms

Commvault introduces CIS-hardened images for secure, simplified cloud deployments on major platforms, enhancing cyber resilience and regulatory compliance.

Commvault, a leader in cyber resilience and data protection for hybrid cloud environments, has unveiled its latest solution to simplify secure cloud deployments. The company announced that its Commvault Cloud Platform can now be easily deployed across major cloud marketplaces using CIS-hardened images. These images are available on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and VMware marketplaces, allowing organisations to quickly adopt best-practice security configurations.

CIS-hardened images are software files pre-configured with security recommendations from the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmarks. These benchmarks help mitigate common cloud vulnerabilities, such as improper network configurations, which are frequently exploited by attackers. According to industry research, misconfigurations account for 23% of cloud infrastructure attacks. Commvault’s hardened images aim to reduce these risks by offering pre-set security controls from the outset, ensuring IT and security teams can deploy confidently.

Chris Montgomery, Commvault’s CTO for Security in the Americas, stated, “With CIS-hardened images, we can eliminate the guesswork, providing IT teams with a secure, pre-configured foundation to accelerate their cyber resilience strategies while meeting industry standards.”

Key benefits of Commvault’s CIS-hardened images

1. Pre-configured security and compliance checks
From the moment of deployment, organisations benefit from secure environments that align with CIS best practices. This ensures that Commvault Cloud is installed and configured correctly, minimising risks and offering peace of mind.

2. Strengthened cybersecurity measures
The hardened images address common vulnerabilities by resolving misconfiguration issues. This proactive approach helps organisations defend against potential cyberattacks and data breaches.

3. Simplified compliance with regulatory frameworks
CIS Benchmarks are aligned with key standards, including NIST CSF, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001. This mapping helps organisations meet complex regulatory requirements more easily and maintain compliance.

4. Easy access through leading cloud marketplaces
Commvault Cloud can be directly deployed from AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or VMware marketplaces, making the installation process faster and requiring minimal effort from IT teams.

Marek Duranik, Storage and Data Protection Associate Director at Merck, emphasised the importance of having security built into deployments. “Commvault’s CIS-hardened images give us the assurance that we’re starting from a strong security baseline, allowing our teams to focus on protecting and recovering critical data,” Duranik said.

Supporting the cloud-first transition

The timing of Commvault’s announcement is significant, as more organisations shift their IT infrastructure to the cloud. A report by IDC predicts that spending on public cloud services will reach US$1.6 trillion by 2028, reflecting the rapid adoption of cloud technologies.

To support this shift, Commvault has been rolling out several cloud-first solutions aimed at enhancing resilience. Recent innovations include Cleanroom Recovery, Cloud Rewind, and Clumio Backtrack. The introduction of CIS-hardened images marks another step forward, helping businesses deploy securely while navigating complex cloud environments.

By integrating security into the core of its offerings, Commvault ensures that businesses can reduce vulnerabilities, streamline regulatory compliance, and accelerate their cloud adoption journeys. As organisations continue to prioritise cyber resilience, tools like CIS-hardened images will be vital in protecting critical data and infrastructure.
