Dell unveils advanced PowerEdge servers with AMD technology to boost AI capabilities

Dell launches new PowerEdge servers powered by AMD 5th Gen EPYC processors, offering enhanced performance and efficiency for enterprise AI workloads.

Dell has announced a new portfolio of PowerEdge servers designed to meet the increasing demand for scalable, high-performance infrastructure. By integrating the latest AMD 5th Generation EPYC processors and cutting-edge cooling systems, Dell aims to help enterprises stay ahead in the competitive AI and data-driven landscape.

The new PowerEdge XE7745 server will be available in January 2025, while the R6715, R7715, R6725, and R7725 servers will be available in November 2024.

PowerEdge servers built for AI and enterprise workloads

At the forefront of Dell’s offerings is the PowerEdge XE7745, tailored for AI workloads such as inferencing, model fine-tuning, and high-performance computing (HPC). It supports up to eight double-width or 16 single-width PCIe GPUs, leveraging AMD’s 5th Generation EPYC processors. The server is housed in a 4U air-cooled chassis and includes eight additional PCIe Gen 5.0 slots for enhanced network connectivity.

The PowerEdge R6725 and R7725 servers provide robust solutions for enterprises seeking scalability and performance. Powered by AMD EPYC processors, these servers are optimised for demanding workloads. Dell reports that the R7725 delivers a 66% performance boost and improves efficiency by 33% at peak operation.

Additionally, these servers support up to 50% more cores and offer a 37% increase in performance per core. These enhancements reduce the need for multiple servers and lower CPU power consumption by up to 65%, enabling significant energy savings.

Greater efficiency and storage with single-socket servers

The PowerEdge R6715 and R7715 servers further showcase Dell’s commitment to efficiency. These single-socket servers, powered by AMD EPYC processors, provide up to 37% more drive capacity, increasing storage density. They can be configured with up to 24 DIMMs (Dual In-line Memory Modules), ensuring maximum performance for enterprise applications.

These platforms integrate seamlessly with Dell’s updated Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC), offering IT teams enhanced management capabilities. Enterprises will also benefit from including Dell Generative AI Solutions with AMD, featuring the PowerEdge XE9680 server and AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators. This combination is designed to accelerate AI inferencing and customisation, particularly in tasks like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), reducing time-to-value by up to 86%.

A future-ready approach to AI

Dell has enhanced the Dell Enterprise Hub on Hugging Face to support cutting-edge AI deployments, including PowerEdge XE9680 compatibility. This integration allows businesses to deploy models like Llama and Mixtral, optimised for AI inferencing and supported by Hugging Face’s Text Generation Inference (TGI) backend.

“By integrating AMD technology into the latest Dell servers, AI solutions, and services through the Dell AI Factory, we’re providing the performance and efficiencies enterprises need today and in the future,” said Arthur Lewis, president of Dell’s Infrastructure Solutions Group. “Together with AMD, we are setting new standards in AI performance, giving enterprises powerful and cost-effective solutions essential for modern data-driven environments.”

Dell’s latest PowerEdge portfolio underscores its commitment to innovation in AI, offering enterprises the tools to enhance efficiency, scale operations, and reduce costs while staying at the forefront of technological advancements.
