Informatica and Carnegie Mellon University partner to drive innovation in generative AI for data management

Informatica partners with Carnegie Mellon University to drive innovation in generative AI for data management, enhancing AI-driven solutions for businesses.

Informatica, a leading provider of AI-powered cloud data management solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) School of Computer Science. Renowned for its research excellence in artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science, CMU is regarded as one of the world’s foremost institutions in these fields. The new collaboration aims to combine Informatica’s industry expertise with CMU’s academic leadership to further develop and apply generative AI (GenAI) technologies in data management.

Combining industry expertise with academic research

This partnership brings together Informatica’s AI-driven innovations and CMU’s cutting-edge research capabilities, focusing on advancing GenAI-powered data management. A key area of focus will be the integration of these advancements within Informatica’s CLAIRE AI suite. The partnership’s goals include improving the efficiency of data management through AI, automating key processes, and reducing complexity.

Key areas of focus for the collaboration include AI-driven automation, metadata-driven agentic AI, and optimised AI training and inference. The use of GenAI to automate and accelerate data management processes will help reduce costs and time, allowing businesses to gain value from their data more quickly. The development of AI-based automation for multi-source enterprise GenAI applications will enable businesses to deploy advanced AI solutions that can easily access data from a variety of sources.

A focus on advanced AI capabilities for the enterprise

The partnership also aims to introduce novel approaches to optimising training and inference times across multi-model enterprise deployments. These improvements are expected to enhance the price-to-performance ratio of global, distributed GenAI applications, ensuring businesses can take advantage of cutting-edge technologies without excessive cost.

“Our partnership with Carnegie Mellon University underscores Informatica’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with generative AI in data management,” said Rik Tamm-Daniels, Group Vice President of Strategic Ecosystems at Informatica. “By uniting our expertise with CMU’s research excellence, we are pioneering AI-driven innovations that will redefine enterprise data management. These advancements will be embedded within CLAIRE GPT and CLAIRE AI Copilot, bringing transformative benefits to our customers and the industry at large.”

Martial Hebert, dean of CMU’s School of Computer Science, welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the importance of industry-academic partnerships. “Partnerships between academia and industry are essential for driving meaningful advancements in artificial intelligence,” he said. “By working with Informatica, we can explore real-world applications of generative AI while providing valuable research and hands-on learning opportunities for our students and faculty. This collaboration will contribute to AI breakthroughs that shape the future of technology.”

Shaping the future of enterprise data management

The results of this research initiative are set to enhance Informatica’s Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) platform, equipping businesses with next-generation AI capabilities to build scalable, AI-ready data foundations. In addition, the collaboration will contribute key innovations to the wider AI research community, further reinforcing Informatica’s role as a leader in generative AI.

This partnership signals a new era for the AI-driven transformation of data management, one that will benefit businesses across industries by enabling smarter, faster, and more efficient data operations.
