Mafia: The Old Country launches 8 August with new trailer and developer insights

Mafia: The Old Country launches 8 August with new trailer, developer insights, and pre-orders open for Standard and Deluxe editions.

2K and Hangar 13 have officially announced that Mafia: The Old Country will launch on 8 August 2025, offering players a gritty, story-driven mafia origin tale set in early 1900s Sicily. The announcement was accompanied by the debut of the game’s official gameplay trailer and a behind-the-scenes developer video titled Breaking Omerta, now available on YouTube and Twitch.

This next chapter in the Mafia franchise will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and NVIDIA GeForce NOW. Fans can pre-order the game starting today.

A new chapter set in Sicily’s criminal underworld

Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes described Mafia: The Old Country as “a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay”. The story follows Enzo Favara, a young man navigating the brutal world of organised crime as he rises through the ranks of Don Torrisi’s crime family.

Players will explore Sicily at the turn of the 20th century, moving through the island via horseback or period-accurate vehicles. The gameplay combines melee and gun combat, all set against a vibrant yet unforgiving Sicilian backdrop. Enzo’s loyalty, honour, and obedience distinguish him in a world defined by power struggles and betrayal.

The developer panel at PAX East, also available online, provides additional insights into the development process and how Hangar 13 approached the challenge of recreating historical Sicily using the power of Unreal Engine 5.

Behind the scenes with the developers

The Breaking Omerta Developer Insights video gives players a deeper look into how Hangar 13 is crafting this latest instalment. The team shares how they approached historical accuracy and designed a narrative rooted in emotion and realism. The result is a highly polished, linear story-driven game that blends high-stakes action with the kind of dramatic twists typical of classic crime sagas.

“Mafia: The Old Country is the first in the franchise to leverage Unreal Engine 5,” Baynes added, noting the technical improvements it brings to realism and storytelling. David Ismailer, President of 2K, commented, “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments,” highlighting how the game fits into 2K’s broader strategy to offer more narrative-driven experiences.

Editions and pre-order bonuses

Mafia: The Old Country will be available in two editions. The Standard Edition, priced at US$49.99, includes the full base game. The Deluxe Edition, priced at US$59.99, includes additional in-game content such as weapons, outfits, vehicles, charms, and digital extras like a soundtrack and concept art book.

Players who pre-order either edition will receive the Soldato Pack, which includes the “Soldato” Outfit, “Scannaturi Speciale” Knife, “Tesoro” Horse and Accessories, and “Lupara” Charm. Pre-order bonuses will be delivered digitally or through code-in-box, depending on the format purchased.

First released in 2002, the Mafia franchise has sold over 38 million copies worldwide. With Mafia: The Old Country, Hangar 13 aims to build on that legacy by returning to the roots of the criminal empire and delivering an emotionally charged narrative with modern-day polish.
