Nutanix and Pure Storage unveil integrated solution for mission-critical workloads

Nutanix and Pure Storage have announced a new integrated solution for mission-critical workloads, combining storage and virtualisation performance.

Nutanix and Pure Storage have announced a new partnership to deliver a joint infrastructure solution aimed at modernising virtual workloads for enterprises. The integration combines the Nutanix Cloud Platform with Pure Storage FlashArray, promising enhanced performance, cyber resilience, and operational flexibility for organisations managing critical and data-intensive applications.

Addressing the changing virtualisation landscape

This collaboration comes at a time when businesses are re-evaluating their virtualisation strategies amid shifting market dynamics. Gartner has projected that by 2028, cost considerations will lead 70% of large-scale VMware customers to migrate half of their virtual workloads elsewhere. Nutanix and Pure Storage are responding to this trend by creating a fully integrated offering designed to address these evolving needs.

The solution pairs Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure, which includes the AHV hypervisor and Flow for networking and security, with Pure Storage’s FlashArray using NVMe/TCP. This setup is intended to support demanding enterprise workloads such as artificial intelligence, delivering scalable performance and operational simplicity.

Maciej Kranz, General Manager for Enterprise at Pure Storage, noted, “With more than 13,500 global customers, I’m hearing more than ever that organisations of all shapes and sizes have a growing need for efficient, flexible, and high-performance solutions that can also scale to support their most critical, data-intensive applications.”

Key benefits for enterprise customers

The new integrated offering will provide a full-stack infrastructure that combines the agility of Nutanix virtual compute with the scalability and efficiency of Pure Storage’s all-flash systems. Nutanix brings flexibility in virtualisation, while Pure adds high-density storage performance.

Tarkan Maner, Chief Commercial Officer at Nutanix, stated, “This new solution will help Nutanix and Pure reach more customers together and help them better manage and modernise their mission-critical applications.”

Security is a central focus of the joint offering. Enterprises can take advantage of Nutanix Flow for micro-segmentation and disaster recovery, combined with Pure Storage’s data-at-rest encryption and SafeMode features to enhance cyber resilience.

In terms of infrastructure choice, the integration supports deployments across a range of server vendors, including Cisco, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro. This flexibility ensures that customers can adopt the solution in existing environments or during new deployments without major disruption.

Anthony Jackman, Chief Innovation Officer at Expedient, praised the collaboration, saying, “We’re thrilled to see Nutanix and Pure Storage joining forces. Their collective expertise, innovative technologies, and shared commitment to reliability and performance will deliver a compelling solution that directly addresses critical needs in the market.”

Expanding ecosystem support and future availability

Cisco is also extending its long-standing FlashStack partnership with Pure Storage to incorporate Nutanix into over 60 validated designs. This will further streamline the delivery of integrated, full-stack infrastructure and provide unified management through Cisco Intersight.

Jeremy Foster, SVP and General Manager of Cisco Compute, commented, “With nearly a decade of joint innovation with Pure Storage, and an expanded partnership and co-development roadmap with Nutanix, we’re offering a proven platform backed by Cisco validated designs… This level of integration, insight, and support is what will set FlashStack with Nutanix apart in the market.”

The new solution is currently in development, with early access expected in mid-2025. General availability is targeted for the end of the year through Nutanix and Pure Storage’s network of channel partners.
