Veeam simplifies disaster recovery for Microsoft Hyper-V with new orchestration

Veeam expands disaster recovery for Microsoft Hyper-V with new orchestration, ensuring fast recovery, improved security, and seamless migration.

Veeam Software, a leading provider in data resilience, has introduced a disaster recovery solution for Microsoft Hyper-V users as part of the Veeam Data Platform. The new Veeam Recovery Orchestrator simplifies and automates the disaster recovery process, making it easier for businesses to plan, test, and execute recovery operations.

With the ability to create, manage, and test disaster recovery plans efficiently, organisations can ensure swift data recovery in the event of an outage or cyberattack. This enhancement builds on Veeam Data Platform’s existing cyber resilience capabilities, such as malware scanning, Indicators of Compromise (IoC) detection, and proactive threat monitoring. The new Hyper-V orchestration provides faster recovery, improved security, and enhanced business continuity.

Expanding data portability for Hyper-V users

Veeam Recovery Orchestrator is now available for customers using Veeam Data Platform Premium. The latest update allows businesses to orchestrate disaster recovery for Hyper-V machines while also enabling the recovery of other workloads to Hyper-V. This capability improves data portability, giving businesses the flexibility to transition between hypervisors seamlessly.

This update is particularly beneficial for organisations migrating from VMware vSphere to Microsoft Hyper-V, ensuring a smooth transition without service disruptions. With this orchestration, businesses can restore operations within minutes, providing a new level of resilience and security.

“Our mission is to deliver data resilience to ensure every customer has their data when and where they need it,” said John Jester, Chief Revenue Officer at Veeam. “Data will inevitably be compromised—whether by threat actors or human error—so having a rapid and confident recovery process in place is crucial. Veeam makes sure organisations are ready for the unexpected and that business keeps running regardless.”

Jester added, “This latest release of Orchestrator introduces support for Hyper-V alongside existing support for VMware. It’s part of our commitment to supporting the systems customers rely on or are adopting. This not only enhances Veeam Data Platform Premium Edition but also empowers customers to execute true end-to-end planned migrations with confidence. Our zero data loss configuration ensures businesses can transition smoothly and securely, minimising downtime and safeguarding critical data.”

Key benefits of the updated Veeam Recovery Orchestrator

The latest release of Veeam Recovery Orchestrator aims to improve data resilience, reduce downtime, and enhance disaster recovery capabilities. Some key features include:

  • Seamless data portability – Automates data movement across different platforms, eliminating vendor lock-in and allowing businesses to operate in multiple environments without restrictions.
  • Flexible migration options – Enables organisations to migrate to new hypervisors or cloud platforms without changing backup vendors, reducing complexity and speeding up transitions.
  • Automation and governance – Provides structured and automated disaster recovery and migration plans that are documented and tested, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Support for VMware and Hyper-V users – Ensures smooth transitions between hypervisors with minimal service disruption, removing the need for businesses to learn new backup solutions.

The Veeam Data Platform Premium Edition, including Veeam Recovery Orchestrator v7.2, is now available. Businesses interested in learning more can visit Veeam’s website for further details.

Industry experts highlight orchestration’s impact

Industry leaders have praised the role of orchestration in modern disaster recovery strategies. John Annand, Practice Lead Infrastructure at Info-Tech Research Group, noted the importance of resilience in managing today’s complex IT environments.

“With data now spread across 192 servers, Kubernetes clusters, SaaS and serverless applications, and various cloud platforms, orchestration is essential for timely data recovery. It embodies resiliency, restoring interconnected systems to their expected state after disruptions, allowing businesses to resume operations. Veeam Recovery Orchestrator’s support for Hyper-V significantly enhances infrastructure for existing Veeam and Microsoft users and offers a straightforward transition for those moving away from VMware. While planning and testing a single workload recovery is manageable, orchestration is critical for ensuring business continuity in today’s complex environment,” Annand said.

Jim Ballowe, Chief Information Officer at Esquire Deposition Solutions, LLC, highlighted how Veeam Recovery Orchestrator ensures compliance and quick recovery.

“The beauty of Veeam Orchestrator in terms of making sure we’re compliant from a business continuity perspective is in running tests every quarter. We make sure that all the machines—whether Windows, Linux, or anything in between—come back online. Veeam Orchestrator gives us a fantastic output showing what worked, what didn’t work, and what we need to fix. We can recover instantly, and we can prove it. This proof gives us everything we need to match—not just checking the box for compliance purposes, but to get back online with a really aggressive RTO,” Ballowe said.

Veeam’s latest update reinforces its commitment to providing businesses with the tools they need to achieve true data resilience. With the addition of Hyper-V orchestration, organisations can confidently plan and execute their recovery strategies while maintaining operational continuity.
