Veeam strengthens data resilience for Microsoft 365 users with new Backup v8 solution

[output_post_excerpt]

Veeam Software has announced the launch of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8, enhancing its position as the top provider of data resilience solutions for Microsoft 365. This latest version introduces comprehensive immutability features, ensuring that backup data remains secure and unchangeable, safeguarding organisations from potential loss or corruption of critical data. The company currently protects over 21 million Microsoft 365 users worldwide, ensuring their businesses can continue operating smoothly, regardless of any disruptions.

John Jester, Veeam’s Chief Revenue Officer, stated: “Losing the critical data, files and communications housed in Microsoft 365 is a catastrophic scenario for any organisation. That’s why we’re protecting over 21 million users today, more than any vendor in the market, making Veeam the #1 data resilience solution for Microsoft 365. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8 ensures that despite expected cyber-attacks and data disruptions, organisations have ready access to critical business information to ensure business continuity.” He added that the new release is based on customer feedback, including a new architecture designed for increased efficiency and scalability.

Improved backup immutability and enterprise scalability

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8 builds upon existing features, offering advanced backup immutability. This ensures that organisations’ backup data cannot be altered or deleted, preserving its original integrity. This new version allows businesses to store their backups on various storage options, including Azure Blob Storage, Amazon S3, IBM Cloud Object Storage, and S3-compatible storage solutions.

In addition to improved immutability, Veeam has introduced Proxy Pools, a key architectural update to increase efficiency in enterprise environments. Proxy Pools distribute backup traffic across multiple proxies, which enhances the speed of processing backups and reduces throttling. This feature is particularly beneficial for large organisations with tens of thousands of users, allowing them to scale up their operations without performance slowdowns.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8 also includes additional enhancements requested by customers, such as the introduction of Linux-based backup proxies. This provides more flexibility for businesses and can lower the total cost of ownership. Another important update is the support for private and shared Microsoft Teams channels, offering broader protection for this essential communication and collaboration platform.

Responding to customer needs with added support

The new release is directly shaped by feedback from Veeam’s existing user base, who rely on the software to protect their business-critical data. With the added support for Microsoft Teams and the option to use Linux-based backup proxies, Veeam addresses both security and cost efficiency. These features are particularly important as organisations look for ways to cost-effectively protect their growing digital assets.

Tony Palmer, Practice Director at TechTarget’s Enterprise Strategy Group, highlighted the importance of Veeam’s solutions, stating: “Protecting business-critical data residing in Microsoft 365 is vital to organisations of all sizes. Enterprise Strategy Group has repeatedly validated that Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 offers a comprehensive protection option across all of Microsoft 365. With each new version, Veeam has introduced extensive new security measures, and version 8 is no different.”

For existing users like Patrick Gebhard, Team Lead Network at FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, Veeam’s capabilities continue to evolve, reinforcing its reliability. He commented, “One of the main reasons we trust Veeam is that it’s continuously evolving and leads in the market when it comes to new features.”

Veeam’s new release also impressed California Dairies, Inc., with Director of Infrastructure and Security Matthew Prieto stating: “We already felt confident with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, and now with v8 and the inclusion of Linux proxies, Proxy Pools, and improved immutability, we are looking forward to implementing further resiliency and security.”
