Xiaomi unveils Mix Flip 2 with upgraded features to rival Samsung’s foldable

Xiaomi launches the Mix Flip 2 with new colours, an improved hinge, brighter screens, and a better battery to challenge Samsung’s foldable.

Xiaomi is stepping up its game in the foldable phone market with the launch of the Mix Flip 2, revealed during the brand’s recent “Human x Car x Home” mega event. While the spotlight shone mainly on the YU7 electric car, you were also introduced to this sleek upgrade to the original Mix Flip—a model many tech fans were already fond of.

With Samsung’s next-generation foldables just around the corner, Xiaomi wants you to know it’s ready to compete.

Subtle design tweaks and stronger durability

If you liked the look of the original Mix Flip, you’ll find the Flip 2 familiar. The overall design hasn’t changed drastically, but Xiaomi has given you more colour choices. Now, you can pick from Plum Green, Nebula Purple, Lattice Gold, and Shell White, each offering a distinct finish.

The main screen remains generously 6.86 inches, but Xiaomi has now fitted it with tougher glass. This improvement means better durability and peace of mind for daily use. The hinge has also been redesigned to reduce the noticeable crease when the screen is unfolded, adding to a cleaner and more seamless experience.

The cover screen is now 4.01 inches on the outside and supports over 500 apps, making it far more useful than its predecessor. Whether replying to messages or checking your calendar, you’ll likely find it easier to get things done. Both screens deliver smooth performance with 120Hz refresh rates and an ultra-bright peak of 3,200 nits—ideal for sunny days.

More power, storage, and better battery life

At the heart of the Mix Flip 2 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which gives you the power to handle almost anything. The base model starts with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, but if you need more, you can opt for the 12GB + 512GB version or go all out with the top-tier 16GB + 1TB variant.

Battery life has also received a boost. You now get a 5,165mAh battery, a clear improvement over the 4,780mAh battery in the original Mix Flip. This should give you more hours of use before recharging—a small but significant upgrade for busy days.

The camera system has also seen a meaningful change. Xiaomi has moved away from a telephoto lens and now includes an ultrawide sensor alongside the main camera. Both rear cameras boast 50MP sensors, although the main one is larger for improved detail and performance. On the front, you’ll get a 32MP selfie camera, which should deliver crisp results for video calls and social media.

Pricing and availability

The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 is only available in China, with a starting price of 5,999 RMB (around S$1,066). Xiaomi hasn’t announced pricing or availability for other markets yet, but updates are expected in the coming weeks.

If you’re considering a foldable phone this year, the Mix Flip 2 could be worth watching—especially if Samsung’s new models don’t bring the heat.
