You have until June 30 to update your old LG phone

LG will shut down its phone update servers and LG Bridge software on June 30, 2025, marking the end of support for older LG phones.

If you’re still using an LG smartphone, you have just two months to download any available software updates before the company shuts down its update servers. LG, which stopped making Android phones in 2021, will fully retire support for these devices on June 30, 2025.

This means that after that date, you can no longer download Android upgrades or even basic security patches. LG made this clear in a recent notice to users, explaining that the update servers, which have stayed online longer than expected, will finally be switched off at the end of June.

Final chance for software and security updates

When LG announced its exit from the smartphone market in 2021, the company made a promise to existing customers. It said that newer devices — including the Velvet, Wing, and G- and V-series phones released in 2019 or later — would receive three years of Android updates from the year of their release.

Depending on your device, you might have received updates up to Android 12 or even Android 13, along with some security patches. However, after June 30, none of these will be available anymore. So, if you haven’t already updated your phone, now is the time to do it.

Even though your LG phone will still work after the servers shut down, it won’t be able to get any future updates. This includes important security fixes, which are especially necessary to keep your phone safe and functioning properly over time. Without them, your phone could become more vulnerable to bugs and online threats.

LG Bridge will also be discontinued

It’s not just the update servers that are going offline. At the end of June, LG Bridge PC software, which many people use to back up data, transfer contacts, and restore devices, will also be shut down. This software has been helpful for those who want to manage their phones from a computer, but it will no longer be available or supported after the deadline.

You must act quickly if you rely on LG Bridge to move your files or keep a data backup. Ensure you’ve moved any important photos, documents, or contacts off your device before the software becomes unavailable.

What you should do now

To ensure your LG phone stays in good shape for as long as possible, it’s best to install any pending updates before June 30. Check your phone’s settings under Software Updates and make sure everything is current. If you use LG Bridge, now’s the time to back up your phone or move your data to another service or device.

You don’t need to replace your LG phone immediately, but without updates, you’ll eventually face issues that might make upgrading necessary. If you’re considering moving to a new phone, start looking at your options now so you’re not caught off guard in a few months.
