AirPods will feature voice isolation and voiceless Siri interactions this autumn

The upcoming AirPods update this autumn will introduce new features like voiceless Siri interactions and voice isolation.

Exciting software updates are on the horizon for your AirPods, with major enhancements expected this autumn alongside the new iOS updates. These updates, including voiceless Siri interactions and voice isolation, are designed to enhance your daily life and make your AirPods experience even more seamless and enjoyable.

No longer will you need to vocally respond to Siri. The new “Siri Interactions” feature, available for the AirPods Pro 2nd generation (Lightning) and USB-C version, lets you reply to Siri queries with a simple head nod or shake. This means you can interact with Siri without saying “Hey Siri” every time. Powered by the H2 chip’s machine learning capabilities, this feature allows for voice-free control over answering calls, managing notifications, and more. Now, you can enjoy a seamless, silent interaction with your voice assistant, making your AirPods experience even more convenient.

Voice isolation

One of the standout new features is voice isolation for the AirPods Pro 2nd generation. This feature uses machine learning to enhance your voice during calls while reducing background noise such as wind or construction sounds. This ensures clear communication in any environment, giving you the confidence that your voice will always be heard. Voice isolation works alongside other features like noise cancellation and adaptive transparency, which help manage the sounds you hear through your earbuds while focusing on what your caller hears.

Personalised spatial audio

Personalised spatial audio with dynamic head tracking is no longer limited to music and videos. This feature will enhance your gaming experience on the AirPods Pro 2nd generation, the AirPods 3rd Gen, and the AirPods Max. Moreover, the AirPods Pro will receive ultra-low wireless audio latency, optimised for mobile gaming.

These updates include improved 16-bit/48kHz voice quality for multiplayer chats and a new developer API for advanced spatial audio implementation in games.

Availability

These exciting updates for AirPods will be available for free this autumn. The Siri interactions, voice isolation, and voice quality upgrades are exclusive to the new AirPods Pro 2nd generation model. If you’re a developer, you can access the beta firmware today to start integrating these features. This exclusivity ensures that, as an AirPods Pro 2nd generation user, you’ll be among the first to enjoy these advanced features.
