Apple introduces Watch SE 3 with major upgrades

Apple launches the Watch SE 3 with a faster chip, always-on display, new health tools, and 5G connectivity from 19 September.

Apple has expanded its smartwatch line-up with the launch of the Watch SE 3, an updated version of its most affordable wearable. Announced alongside the new Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11, the SE 3 brings a range of significant upgrades, including a faster processor, an always-on display, and improved health tracking features.

A familiar design with stronger performance

The Apple Watch SE 3 is powered by the new S10 processor, the same chip used in the Series 11. According to Apple, this delivers faster performance and more efficient battery life. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of an always-on display, a feature previously absent from the SE range since its debut.

The watch is available in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm, and comes in Midnight and Starlight aluminium finishes. The front crystal is now made from Apple’s Ion-X glass, which is said to be twice as scratch-resistant as its predecessor. Charging speeds have also been doubled, with the battery lasting up to 18 hours on a single charge. Apple’s latest watchOS 26 software brings improved power management, ensuring users can make the most of the upgraded hardware.

New health and fitness features

Health tracking remains at the core of the Apple Watch, and the SE 3 introduces several new features. For the first time, it includes a temperature sensor, expanding its capabilities for monitoring wellness. The watch can now detect signs of sleep apnea and provides detailed sleep scores to help users better understand their rest patterns.

In addition to these health-focused tools, the watch offers gesture-based controls. Apple’s double-tap gesture and wrist-flick shortcuts allow users to navigate and interact with the device more easily. The SE 3 can also play music and podcasts directly through its built-in speaker, removing the need for headphones in certain situations.

Connectivity and availability

The cellular version of the SE 3 supports 5G connectivity, enabling faster streaming, calls, and messaging without relying on a nearby iPhone. This is a notable step forward from previous SE models, offering greater independence and flexibility for users on the go.

Pricing for the Apple Watch SE 3 starts at S$349. Pre-orders are open now, with general availability beginning on 19 September.
