iOS 26 introduces icon tinting to match iPhone cases

iOS 26 introduces a new icon tinting feature that matches iPhone Home Screen icons to MagSafe cases or the device itself.

Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 update will bring a new personalisation feature that allows users to match their Home Screen icons to the colour of their iPhone case. The feature, currently available in the release candidate version, is designed to work seamlessly with Apple’s MagSafe cases.

How the feature works

When users long press on the Home Screen and select the customise option, a new iPhone case icon appears at the bottom of the “Tinted” menu. By tapping this icon, the Home Screen icons automatically change colour to match the MagSafe case being used.

The feature requires a MagSafe case that the iPhone can recognise, meaning it is primarily designed for Apple-branded accessories. If the case does not display the signature colourful MagSafe ring when attached to the phone, the automatic tinting option will not be available.

For those who prefer not to use a case, there is also the option to match icon colours to the iPhone itself. This can be done by tapping the iPhone icon within the tint settings.

A new translucent design

Apple has also given tinted icons a refreshed appearance in iOS 26. Icons now feature what the company calls a Liquid Glass look, adding translucency across both app icons and widgets on the Home Screen.

Users are not limited to automatic tinting alone. They can still adjust the tint colour manually or select a shade that matches their wallpaper for a more customised look. This flexibility allows for more personalisation, while the automatic case-matching option offers a quick and effortless way to coordinate devices and accessories.

Release date

The iOS 26 update is scheduled to launch officially on 15 September. The release will introduce this new tinting option alongside other system improvements, expanding the ways iPhone owners can personalise their devices.

With iOS 26, Apple continues its trend of enhancing user customisation, giving people more control over how their devices look and feel.
