Apple may launch two new external displays by early 2026

Apple is preparing to launch two new external displays, possibly featuring mini-LED, with a release expected by early 2026.

Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce two new external monitors, with a launch expected either later this year or in early 2026. The move would expand the company’s display line-up for the first time since the release of the Apple Studio Display in 2022.

Details on upcoming monitors

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Apple has begun gearing up for mass production of two monitors currently codenamed J427 and J527. One of these is thought to be a direct successor to the existing Studio Display, while the second model may feature a different screen size and technical specifications.

Previous reports from Gurman indicated that Apple had been working on “multiple new external monitors” powered by Apple Silicon. More recently, a major leak in August suggested that the upcoming Studio Display 2 would use the A19 Pro chip, the same processor found in the iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro. This integration would mark a significant step forward in Apple’s strategy of embedding advanced chips into its peripherals, enabling improved performance and enhanced software support.

Possible mini-LED technology

In addition to details from Gurman, industry analyst Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, said earlier this year that Apple could unveil a 27-inch mini-LED display. Mini-LED panels are known for delivering deeper blacks, brighter highlights and improved contrast compared to traditional LED screens. If this technology is adopted, it would represent a significant upgrade for professional users who rely on colour accuracy and image quality.

The potential introduction of mini-LED technology could also align Apple’s external displays more closely with the visual experience of its high-end MacBook Pro models, which already feature mini-LED screens. This would ensure consistency across devices and appeal to users within the creative and professional sectors.

Launch timeframe and product line-up

If Apple moves ahead with a launch this year, the monitors may be unveiled as part of a wider line-up that could include the M5-powered iPad Pros and the Vision Pro headset. Industry speculation suggests October as a potential launch window, although the company has not yet confirmed any details.

The Apple Studio Display, introduced in March 2022, has now been on the market for over three years. With the growing competition in the external monitor space, the release of two refreshed models would allow Apple to reassert its position and meet the demands of both everyday consumers and professional users.

While Apple has remained silent on the subject, the combination of analyst insights, leaks and production reports suggests that the company is preparing to expand its hardware ecosystem further. Whether the monitors arrive in late 2025 or early 2026, they are likely to offer notable improvements in design and performance.
