Apple’s next budget iPhone might be called the “iPhone 16E”

Based on what my source has reported, it seems that the new iPhone that Apple will unveil in 2025 will not be called iPhone SE4, but iPhone 16E. It should feature a design similar to the iPhone 14, with an OLED display and an action button. The available colors will be white and… pic.twitter.com/Vm8DCh1Xo0 — […]

Apple is reportedly considering a significant change to its budget-friendly iPhone SE series. According to a reliable source, @MajinBuOfficial, the upcoming iPhone SE could be rebranded as the iPhone 16E. If true, this move would align the SE model more closely with Apple’s flagship iPhone lineup, presenting it as a cost-effective alternative to the iPhone 16.

A new name for a new era

Since its debut in March 2016, the iPhone SE has retained its unique name, distinguishing it from Apple’s main iPhone range. However, the potential switch to the “iPhone 16E” could signal Apple’s intent to streamline its branding and make the SE feel like a true member of the iPhone family.

Reports suggest that the iPhone 16E will closely resemble the iPhone 14 in design. It will feature an OLED display, a noticeable upgrade from the LCD screen of the current iPhone SE (2022). The new model might also come in just two colours—black and white—unlike the existing Midnight, Starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED options.

Enhanced features for a competitive edge

The iPhone 16E is rumoured to introduce several enhancements to meet modern smartphone standards. Expected features include Face ID, a 6.1-inch OLED display, and Apple’s advanced A18 chip. Additionally, it may debut Apple’s first in-house 5G modem, potentially improving connectivity and performance. Another notable feature is the inclusion of Apple Intelligence, which could enhance user experience through smarter device interactions.

The rebranding and upgrades aim to make the device more appealing to budget-conscious consumers without compromising performance or quality.

Launch and pricing

Apple is anticipated to unveil the iPhone 16E in March 2025. Priced at US$499 (~S$681), the device offers a more affordable entry point into Apple’s ecosystem. This pricing positions it competitively against other mid-range smartphones while delivering the premium feel associated with Apple products.

As Apple continues to evolve its product offerings, the iPhone 16E could be a game-changer in the entry-level smartphone market. Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches.
