GTA 6 gameplay footage surfaces online as Rockstar issues takedown notices
GTA 6 gameplay clips and a map have leaked online, with Rockstar reportedly issuing takedown notices ahead of its next reveal.
Rockstar Games appears to be facing another leak involving Grand Theft Auto VI, with gameplay clips and an image of the game’s map circulating online ahead of its planned promotional reveal. The publisher has reportedly issued DMCA takedown notices against people sharing the material, although the footage remains available through unofficial channels.
Table Of Content
The leaked material offers a possible early look at several features expected in GTA 6, including its open-world map, character progression and vehicle systems. However, its authenticity has not been independently confirmed, and the footage may not represent the final version of the game.
Leaked map offers a look at GTA 6’s fictional Florida
One of the leaked images reportedly shows Leonida, the fictional US state where GTA 6 takes place. The map appears to draw heavily from Florida, with a large urban area resembling Miami positioned towards the east and more open, green areas stretching across the north and west.
The map also appears to contain numerous islands, including a southern group that resembles the Florida Keys. Several markers can reportedly be seen across the image, although many are difficult to identify. Others appear to represent locations or objects such as homes, vehicles and an alligator.
The leaked map broadly matches what Rockstar has previously shown about GTA 6’s setting. The game is expected to feature Vice City, the series’ fictional version of Miami, alongside surrounding rural areas, waterways and smaller communities. The scale and layout shown in the leaked image could therefore provide a plausible indication of how the wider game world has been designed.
Still, the image’s source remains uncertain. The material reportedly carries watermarks directing viewers to websites connected to the leak, while the person claiming responsibility has presented the release as a protest against Rockstar and other publishers.
Gameplay clips suggest new progression and vehicle systems
One circulating clip reportedly follows Jason, one of GTA 6’s two main characters, at a waterside property. The location appears to match an official image previously released by Rockstar and identified as Jason’s safehouse.
In the footage, Jason can reportedly be seen using the area around the property before jumping from a balcony and running towards a jet ski. He then picks up a basketball and takes several shots. Successfully scoring appears to trigger an increase to a focus-related statistic, suggesting that GTA 6 could incorporate more role-playing elements than previous entries in the series.
The clip also appears to show a relatively limited heads-up display. Two dollar amounts can reportedly be seen in the upper-right corner, using a font similar to that found in earlier GTA games. A focus bar reportedly appears in the upper-left corner while Jason is holding the basketball.
A second clip reportedly provides a more action-focused look at the game. Jason appears to approach an area known as The Keys before turning around and crashing into a delivery truck. A confrontation follows, during which Jason reportedly kills the driver using a wrench.
The weapon appears to reduce an energy bar with each swing, while the incident triggers a two-star wanted level. A devil symbol accompanied by a minus sign also reportedly appears on screen, alongside an image of Jason. This could point to an honour or morality system similar to the one used in Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption series.
The footage also appears to show “loadout” and “storage” prompts when Jason returns to his vehicle. These could indicate that players can manage weapons and other items through their cars. A vehicle name and fuel indicator reportedly appear after Jason gets back behind the wheel, raising the possibility that players will need to refuel vehicles in GTA 6.
Rockstar’s upcoming reveal remains the official source
Despite the apparent detail in the leaked material, it should be treated cautiously. It is unclear when the footage was recorded, whether it comes from a genuine development build, and how closely it reflects the final game. Rockstar’s servers were also reportedly breached earlier this year, adding further uncertainty around the origins of material claiming to show unreleased content.
The person behind the leak reportedly released the footage and map as part of a wider protest against Rockstar’s approach to physical game releases. The individual claims to oppose including a code in the physical edition rather than a traditional game disc, while also criticising digital pre-orders, what they describe as “fake single-player DLC,” and the loss of access to single-player games.
The leaked material is reportedly being removed from platforms through DMCA notices as Rockstar attempts to limit its spread. The publisher has not publicly confirmed that the clips or map are genuine, so the reported features should not be regarded as confirmed game mechanics.
More official information is expected soon. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 19 November. Rockstar is also preparing an extended look at the game, which is scheduled to stream on Netflix on 27 August before being made available on YouTube later that day.
Until Rockstar provides further details, the leaked footage remains an unofficial and unverified glimpse of what could be one of the most anticipated games in the series.
