CapCut updates pricing plans and removes free cloud storage

CapCut updates pricing, removing free cloud storage and raising plan rates, prompting users to reassess their editing and storage needs.

CapCut has rolled out significant changes to its pricing model, ending its free cloud storage offering and increasing rates for various subscription plans. The updated structure, introduced on 5 August 2024, marks a notable shift for both casual and professional users of the video editing platform.

The changes reflect CapCut’s broader investment into AI-powered tools and expanded cloud capabilities, but they also require users to rethink how they manage their subscriptions, especially those who have come to rely on the platform’s cloud storage.

New pricing structure for 2025

CapCut’s latest subscription plans cater to different types of users, from mobile-only editors to professionals managing cross-platform projects. The Standard Plan, now priced at US$5.99 (S$9.78 in Singapore) per month or US$89.99 (S$88.00 in Singapore) annually, is aimed at mobile users who do not require access via desktop or web.

For those who edit across devices, the Pro Plan offers support on mobile, desktop, and web for US$19.99 (S$19.48 in Singapore) per month or US$179.99 (S$174.98 in Singapore) per year. It’s a package designed to meet the needs of creators handling high-volume projects or who work across multiple platforms.

Meanwhile, the Teams Plan, tailored for group collaboration and shared access, costs US$24.99 monthly (S$23.48 in Singapore) or US$214.99 (S$209.98 in Singapore) yearly. This plan is intended for businesses or teams that manage collaborative workflows, offering a more efficient solution for multi-user access.

Cloud storage no longer free

Perhaps the most noticeable change is the removal of free cloud storage. Previously, all CapCut users were given 10GB at no cost. That option has now been discontinued, with users needing to pay for any cloud storage requirements.

New pricing for cloud storage begins at US$0.99 per month for 10GB. The 100GB plan now costs US$4.99 per month, up from US$2.99. The largest tier, 1TB, has increased to US$14.99 per month, from the earlier US$9.99 rate. These changes may impact users who regularly save large files or use cloud backup as part of their editing workflow.

CapCut stated that the price adjustments are intended to support continued development of their cloud-based services and advanced editing features, including new AI tools that aim to improve user experience.

Weighing the value for users

With these increases, users will need to evaluate whether the premium features offered by CapCut still meet their needs and budgets. For mobile-only users, the Standard Plan may still offer good value. However, those working across platforms or managing larger workloads may find the Pro or Teams Plan necessary, despite the higher cost.

These adjustments also align with a broader industry trend. Many video editing platforms are shifting toward paid models that support long-term development and more advanced features, moving away from the free, ad-supported formats of the past.

For users unsure about whether to stay with CapCut or consider alternatives, now is a good time to review their current editing habits, device usage, and storage needs. The removal of free cloud storage, in particular, could be a tipping point for those on tighter budgets.
