CMF by Nothing launches first headphones with modular design and energy slider

CMF by Nothing debuts its first over-ear headphones, offering modular cushions, an Energy Slider, and 100-hour battery life.

CMF, the sub-brand of London-based tech company Nothing, has released its first pair of over-ear headphones, called the CMF Headphone Pro. The launch marks a bold move into the audio market, with the headphones combining premium features, a stylish design, and a surprisingly affordable price point.

In line with CMF’s philosophy of experimenting with design and functionality, the headphones offer more than just standard sound features. One of the standout elements is a modular design that allows users to swap the standard ear cushions for colourful alternatives, adding a personal touch.

The headphones also introduce new ways of interacting with music. Alongside a roller control for adjusting volume, playback and active noise cancellation (ANC), CMF has added a new feature called the Energy Slider. This allows listeners to adjust bass and treble instantly, “based on the energy of the song that you’re listening to”. There is also a programmable button, called Button, which can be customised to suit individual preferences.

Sound quality and advanced features

Inside, the CMF Headphone Pro is built with 40mm drivers using nickel-plated diaphragms to reduce distortion. It features a 16.5mm copper voice coil, a precision bass duct, and a dual-chamber structure designed to deliver deeper and fuller sound.

To personalise the listening experience further, the headphones use Audiodo technology to create a sound profile tailored to each user’s ears. Hybrid ANC is included, helping block out background noise to enhance immersion.

The headphones can be used either wired or wirelessly and come with dual Hi-Res Audio certification. Wireless streaming supports LDAC alongside standard Bluetooth, offering higher-quality playback for compatible devices.

Battery life, availability and pricing

Battery performance is one of the most impressive aspects of the CMF Headphone Pro. On a single charge, the headphones promise up to 100 hours of playback or 50 hours of talk time. With ANC switched on, the listening time remains impressive at 50 hours, surpassing many of the leading noise-cancelling headphones currently available.

Charging is equally convenient. A five-minute charge via USB-C provides up to four hours of playback time, while a full charge takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The CMF Headphone Pro will be available in the UK and EU from 29 September, and in the United States from 7 October. Customers can choose from dark grey, light green, or light grey finishes. Pricing is set at £79, US$99, or AU$179.

For those who want to add more colour, interchangeable ear cushions in orange or light green will be sold separately for £19 or US$25, launching on the exact dates as the headphones.

Nothing has confirmed that reviews are already in progress, meaning buyers will soon find out if the CMF Headphone Pro lives up to expectations.
