Garmin expands access to Dexcom G6 CGM data on smartwatches and cycling computers

Garmin enables Dexcom G6 CGM users to view glucose data on smartwatches and cycling computers, supporting better diabetes management in Singapore.

Garmin Singapore has announced the expanded availability of the Dexcom Connect IQ apps, allowing people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in Singapore to view their Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) data directly on compatible Garmin smartwatches or cycling computers. This update enables users to track their glucose levels and trends more conveniently, even during workouts.

The Dexcom Connect IQ apps are now available for download from the Connect IQ Store. Developed by Garmin, the apps offer an accessible way for individuals with diabetes to stay informed about their glucose readings, encouraging better health and fitness management.

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Diabetes Atlas (2021), one in ten adults in Singapore currently lives with diabetes, with the figure expected to rise by 46 percent by 2045. By then, it is projected that one in eight adults will be living with the condition. Research findings published in 2024 from a partnership study by the NUS Lloyd’s Register Foundation Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk (IPUR) and Diabetes Singapore revealed that nearly 40 percent of 1,000 survey participants had pre-diabetes. Without lifestyle changes, at least 35 percent of these individuals are likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes within eight years.

Convenient glucose monitoring during daily life

The Dexcom Connect IQ app provides a secondary option for users to view their glucose levels without needing to access their smartphones. Available for a wide range of Garmin smartwatches, including the latest fenix 8 series, and the Edge 1050 premium cycling computer, the app offers users a convenient way to check their glucose data throughout the day.

The app displays real-time glucose levels, trends, and a three-hour history, giving users a clearer understanding of how their levels are changing. By making this information easily accessible, Garmin aims to help users manage their condition more effectively while continuing their daily routines.

Seamless integration during workouts

During activities such as running, cycling, or other fitness sessions, the Dexcom Connect IQ data field enables users to view both their glucose levels and performance statistics on a single screen. This integration helps users maintain their focus during training or racing, without needing to stop and check their smartphones.

With a compatible Garmin smartwatch or Edge cycling computer, users can monitor their glucose trends alongside their workout data, offering greater flexibility and support for those managing diabetes while staying active.

Garmin explained that the Dexcom Connect IQ apps were designed to encourage a more active lifestyle for people with diabetes. By allowing users to access essential health information effortlessly, Garmin aims to empower individuals to take better control of their wellbeing while engaging in physical activities.
