Garmin Singapore launches Descent G2 dive computer with AMOLED display

Garmin Singapore launches the Descent G2, a dive computer smartwatch with an AMOLED display, advanced dive features, and health tracking tools.

Garmin Singapore has unveiled the Descent G2, a rugged, watch-style dive computer designed for both underwater exploration and everyday life. The new device supports various dive modes, including technical diving and freediving, and introduces features like a dive readiness score alongside Garmin’s suite of health and fitness tools. Designed with sustainability in mind, the Descent G2 incorporates parts made from recycled ocean-bound plastics and offers up to ten days of battery life in smartwatch mode.

Scoppen Lin, Assistant General Manager of Garmin Asia, said, “Whether you’re a novice diver or more seasoned, the Descent G2 is designed to grow with you—even into tech diving. And with popular features for life above the water like dive readiness, 24/7 heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring and more, there is no limit as to what this watch can do before, during and after your next dive.”

Built for performance and sustainability

The Descent G2 features a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, ensuring clear readability even underwater. The watch’s housing, bezel, and buttons are made entirely from recycled ocean-bound plastics, demonstrating Garmin’s commitment to environmental sustainability. A sapphire lens and a dive-rated case capable of withstanding depths of up to 100 metres add to its durability.

The Descent G2 comes in two colour options – classic black and a stylish paloma/shell pink. It is also compatible with Garmin’s QuickFit bands, allowing users to customise their watch to match their diving gear or personal style.

Advanced dive and training features

The Descent G2 introduces a dive readiness feature, offering insights into how factors such as sleep, stress, recent exercise, and jet lag can affect a diver’s preparedness. A high score suggests optimal conditions for diving, while a lower score may indicate the need for a more cautious approach.

Divers can benefit from a range of new and improved features:

  • Multiple dive modes: Supports various diving styles, including single and multi-gas diving (nitrox and trimix), closed-circuit rebreather (CCR), and gauge mode.
  • In-dive compass: A built-in 3-axis compass helps with underwater navigation.
  • Big numbers mode: Displays key dive data like no-decompression limit (NDL), time, and depth in a larger, easy-to-read format.

For freedivers, the Descent G2 also includes:

  • Dynamic apnea mode: Tracks pool dives to help train for deeper freedives.
  • Apnea alerts: Audible and haptic alerts for depth, interval, direction, target depth, and neutral buoyancy.
  • Variometer: Provides alerts based on descent or ascent rates.
  • Velocity chart: Logs descent and ascent speeds, allowing divers to analyse their performance using the Garmin Dive smartphone app.

Beyond diving: A smartwatch for everyday life

Outside of diving, the Descent G2 functions as a full-featured smartwatch with Garmin’s advanced health, training, and connectivity tools.

  • Health and wellness tracking: Monitors heart rate, steps, calories burned, floors climbed, sleep stages, heart rate variability (HRV), stress, hydration, and respiration. The built-in Pulse Ox sensor tracks blood oxygen levels, both awake and asleep.
  • Training insights: Offers preloaded sports apps for cycling, open-water swimming, and strength training. It also provides training plans through Garmin Coach, VO2 max tracking, heat and altitude acclimation, and personalised workout suggestions.
  • Smart connectivity: When paired with a compatible Apple or Android smartphone, users can receive notifications, check emails, and track health metrics in the Garmin Connect app. The Descent G2 also includes Garmin Pay for contactless payments and supports third-party apps through the Connect IQ store.

Availability and pricing

The Descent G2 is available now for S$1,059 at Garmin Brand Stores, Lazada, Shopee, the Garmin Online Store, Takashimaya, and selected authorised retailers.
