Grab introduces Family Account for enhanced user controls and safety

Discover Grab's Family Account, a new beta feature in Singapore for simpler ride management and payment for families, ensuring safety and convenience.

In a move to enhance the convenience and safety of ride-hailing for families, Grab has rolled out a new beta feature known as the Family Account. This innovation aims to simplify the process of managing and paying for rides for family members on the platform.

What is Grab’s Family Account?

The Family Account, currently a beta feature, is available to Grab users in Singapore through the Grab app. It enables a designated individual, referred to as the administrator, to create a group of up to nine members. The administrator oversees payments and tracks all ride transactions within this group.

Members can book their rides independently, but the administrator is responsible for handling the financial aspects and maintaining a record of all the rides. This feature is particularly beneficial when tracking multiple trips at the same time. Furthermore, the Family Account includes a ride monitoring tool, allowing the administrator to view details of the group members’ rides without the need to share these details separately.

A key component of the Family Account beta is the group chat feature. It enables the administrator to communicate directly with drivers, effectively standing in for the passenger. This feature is handy for trips involving elderly family members who might face language or dialect barriers with the driver.

This service is set to expand to other markets in 2024, which will allow users to manage rides for their loved ones, even from different countries or territories.

Why should I use Grab’s Family Account?

The inception of the Family Account by Grab was influenced by user behaviour analysis. The data revealed that over half of Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia users book rides for family members. Moreover, 62% of survey participants from various markets expressed interest in linking their family members’ Grab accounts, citing travel safety and the convenience of shared payments as their primary motivations.

In an era where online services are increasingly cracking down on account-sharing, introducing Grab’s Family Account is a welcome development. It promises greater convenience for households with multiple users.

Grab’s Family Account beta feature significantly advances ride management and payments for families. It offers a blend of ease, safety, and convenience, making it an appealing choice for Grab users, especially in families with several members.
