Union Gas Holdings boosts operational resilience with Lenovo infrastructure upgrade

Union Gas Holdings upgrades to Lenovo ThinkSystem infrastructure to ensure round-the-clock energy delivery and improve IT performance across Singapore.

Union Gas Holdings Limited has partnered with Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) to overhaul its IT systems, supporting its always-on operations across Singapore. The move is part of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at ensuring continued reliability and scalability in delivering liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG), and diesel to homes and businesses.

With over 40 years of experience in Singapore’s energy sector, Union Gas operates across the full LPG value chain, from production and storage to transportation and distribution. Its ageing infrastructure, nearing the end of its lifecycle, prompted a critical upgrade to maintain uninterrupted service and support the group’s future growth.

Following a detailed assessment, Union Gas deployed Lenovo ThinkSystem servers to manage both production and backup workloads, along with high-performance solid-state storage arrays. This setup has significantly improved system performance and reliability, ensuring the group can continue to meet growing demand efficiently.

Round-the-clock support and improved data security

The infrastructure upgrade also includes Lenovo’s Premier Support for Data Centres. This provides Union Gas with 24/7 technical assistance, a four-hour onsite response time, and access to the Keep Your Drive (KYD) service, which enhances data protection and compliance.

The support package simplifies the process of resolving technical issues, offering a single point of contact for both Lenovo and third-party platforms such as VMware, Microsoft, and Veeam. This has helped Union Gas streamline IT operations and reduce downtime.

Kumar Mitra, Executive Director of Lenovo ISG for CAP & ANZ, said, “Union Gas Holdings plays a vital role in powering Singapore’s energy needs, and we’re proud to support their transformation with Lenovo’s reliable, scalable infrastructure. Our solutions are built to handle mission-critical workloads, ensuring they can deliver uninterrupted service to homes and businesses across the market.”

Positive feedback from IT leadership

Stanley Wong, Head of IT at Union Gas Holdings, highlighted both the performance and service benefits of the partnership: “Lenovo’s servers have become the cornerstone of our operations. Their robust architecture and high performance enable us to handle demanding workloads effortlessly. A standout aspect of our experience with Lenovo has been their exceptional customer support. The Lenovo support team has consistently shown remarkable responsiveness and expertise, efficiently addressing inquiries and resolving issues.”

The digital transformation marks a key milestone for Union Gas Holdings as it strengthens its operational resilience and prepares for future expansion. The collaboration with Lenovo underscores the importance of modern IT systems in ensuring reliable delivery of essential public services.
