Insured Nomads and Doerscircle launch global health insurance platform for independent workers

Insured Nomads and Doerscircle unveil a global health insurance platform tailored for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses worldwide.

A new global health insurance platform tailored for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses was launched today by Insured Nomads Corporation and Doerscircle. The platform, set to go live on 1 December, aims to bridge the gap in healthcare access for the growing independent workforce worldwide.

Addressing a critical gap in the workforce

The collaboration comes at a time when half of the global workforce, as noted by the World Bank, consists of self-employed individuals who often lack access to traditional health benefits. In Singapore, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) alone generate US$200 billion annually and employ two-thirds of the workforce. On a global scale, 150 million startups are fuelling innovation, with an estimated 137,000 new launches occurring daily.

“This platform fundamentally changes the game for independent workers worldwide,” said Andrew Jernigan, CEO of Insured Nomads. “For the first time, solopreneurs and small businesses can access the same quality of health coverage as large corporations, with plans starting from $74 per month and coverage that follows them anywhere in the world. It gives me great joy to know that so many people will have the coverage they need and deserve but didn’t have the ability to obtain.”

Key features of the platform

The health insurance platform, available on the Doerscircle website, introduces several unique features designed to meet the specific needs of independent workers. These include:

  • A simplified onboarding process that eliminates the need for intermediaries.
  • Flexible global coverage options starting at S$74 per month (billed annually).
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including outpatient, dental, and maternity coverage.
  • No minimum company size requirements, allowing even solo entrepreneurs to enrol.
  • Coverage that adapts to workers as they move across borders.

“Traditional insurance hasn’t kept pace with the way we work and live today,” said Helle Priess, founder and CEO of Doerscircle. “Flexible talent needs basic security as they move between engagements. Through Insured Nomads, we’re now making available enterprise-level health coverage to every Independent Doer.”

Supporting flexibility and innovation

Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Health, acknowledged the importance of insurance portability and affordability during a recent statement. “Portability is important to ensure a competitive market, allowing Singaporeans to choose freely what best suits them,” he said, indicating that the government is studying measures to enhance these areas.

The partnership builds on Doerscircle’s community of over 135,000 members and Insured Nomads’ expertise in insurance solutions for mobile professionals. By combining resources, the initiative aims to provide independent workers with much-needed security as they navigate the challenges of a dynamic global workforce.

From December, members will be able to sign up for the health insurance plans through a digital platform that simplifies the entire process. With global coverage included, the platform is set to provide a significant boost to freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners worldwide.
