Lenovo has revealed its new Smart Motion Concept laptop stand at IFA 2025, a device designed to adjust to a user’s movements and posture automatically. The stand raises and lowers itself while also turning and tilting to keep a laptop at an ergonomic eye level.
The technology resembles Apple’s Centre Stage camera feature, which tracks people during video calls, but Lenovo has expanded the idea to include the entire laptop. When demonstrated at a preview event, the stand followed a person’s movements smoothly from side to side and up and down as they shifted around a table. In another demonstration, it performed a playful routine by cycling through its full range of motion to background music, showing off its flexibility.
Features built for function and accessibility
Beyond movement, the Smart Motion Concept comes with additional features. The stand includes built-in cooling fans to prevent laptops from overheating during use, and it doubles as a USB hub for added connectivity. Once connected via USB, Lenovo’s software can use the laptop’s webcam to keep the user in frame, making it useful for video calls and presentations.
The device can be controlled in multiple ways. Users may operate it with a remote or through hand gestures when wearing Lenovo’s AI Ring, a separate concept accessory the company first introduced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
According to Lenovo, the stand is not only about convenience but also about accessibility. By automatically adjusting a laptop’s position, the technology could make computers easier to use for people with different physical needs, helping to reduce strain and improve comfort.
Inspired by earlier experiments
The Smart Motion Concept builds on Lenovo’s previous experiments with adaptable laptop technology. It originates from the company’s earlier Auto Twist concept, a laptop with a screen that could automatically rotate to face the user.
While Lenovo has not confirmed whether the Smart Motion Concept will be released as a consumer product, it sees potential for the technology to appear in future laptops and accessories. By blending automation, ergonomics, and accessibility, the company hopes to demonstrate how laptops can become more responsive to users’ environments.
