LG PuriCare Air Purifier (HEPA): State-of-the-art air purifier for your Singapore home

The LG PuriCare also has built-in Wi-Fi and works through LG’s Smart ThinkQ platform

The best air purifiers will noticeably improve the quality of the air you breathe. A good air purifier will remove pollen, dust, and smoke particles from the air swiftly and quietly. They're also helpful for deodorizing your home, especially in the kitchen and the bathrooms.

Choosing the best air purifier in 2021 can be an expensive and complex decision since the best air purifiers provide excellent airflow to clean prominent places, the performance required to capture even minuscule particles, and the endurance to survive for many years.

For a good reason, the emphasis on health and well-being has been at the forefront in recent years. Technological improvements have also played a significant role in supplying us with more health-related data and making our lives healthier.

With more individuals working from home and many of us spending most of our time indoors, investing in a decent air purifier is an alternative to “going outside for some fresh air.” LG Electronics has launched the LG PuriCare Air Purifier (HEPA) to consumers who want clean, fresh air in their homes.

If you have allergies, asthma, or are concerned about COVID-19 airborne transmission, a high-quality air purifier can help you breathe a little easier. LG's S$899 model is suitable for rooms up to 676ft² / 62.8m². LG PuriCare comes with a 360˚ filtration system that includes a True HEPA layer that promises to collect 99.97 percent of dust particles as small as 0.3 microns and an active carbon deodorizing layer that captures bad odors and eliminates hazardous gases in the air.

Futuristic design with a rotating head

LG's PuriCare looks like it could have dropped from the Millennium Falcon, and it even features a circular head unit that pops up and swings from side to side, adding to the futuristic image. The PuriCare is quite large for a home air purifier. It measures 587 x 343 mm with the head unit down and requires at least 100cm of clearance on all sides, therefore it's not the ideal solution if space is limited. Despite its size, the PuriCare is quite appealing, with a cylindrical shape that narrows toward the top. It is shaped like a thick cylinder that sucks air from all sides and spits clean air out the top.

There are numerous tiny holes all around the cylindrical shape of the LG PuriCare. While you might think they're there for aesthetic purposes, they help intake air from all sides, which is different from how other air purifiers in the market work, which only take in air from the back. This allows you to place the air purifier wherever you choose in your home.

Do note to remove all of the packing tapes from the unit before plugging it in and turning it on, then open the upper and bottom portions and discard the plastic wrapping protecting the filters, as well as all of the cardboard support pieces. The IR remote comes with a coin cell battery that must be installed before usage. Simply push the power button on the top of the machine or the remote to turn it on, and you should be good to go.

Intuitive controls with the ability to pair up with the LG ThinQ app

The unit features separate speed controls for the internal and booster fans, a sleep timer (to set the air purifier to switch off after 2, 4, 8, or 12 hours), and an indicator button. This button does not turn off the indicator lights. Instead, it cycles through three condition levels, including a numerical number and color-coded indicator from red (very bad) to green (good) for three separate particle measurements: PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0. At any given time, only one of these three measures can be presented. As a gauge of odor conditions, a separate color-coded indicator is supplied. Smart, Booster, Single, and Double are the four modes available, while Swing causes the Clean Booster fan to oscillate up to 70 degrees.

The good news is that the PuriCare also comes with an old-fashioned infrared remote control that duplicates most of the device's functionalities. You may also use the LG ThinQ app on your smartphone, tablet, or smart speaker to control your LG PuriCare Air Purifier. In addition, it works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. As a result, you may use voice commands to turn the unit on and off and alter other critical settings.

Via the LG ThinQ app, which you can also use for other LG appliances, you can also control the air purifier on the go. It's perfect for when you can't find the air purifier's remote or don't want to get up from your comfy couch seat to switch it on. It requires a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection, as do other smart devices; however, it choked constantly when attempting to connect to my Wi-Fi (which operates a 5GHz network with the same SSID).

True HEPA filters provide excellent performance

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has validated the PuriCare as asthma and allergy-friendly. It is also Energy Star certified and has a ten-year motor guarantee and one-year parts and labor warranty.

True HEPA filters are tested and certified to eliminate at least 99.97 percent of dust particles as fine as 0.3 micrometers to meet current standards. It's not simply the amount of dust in the air but also the size of the dust particles. Most air purifiers on the market can detect larger dust particles, which is why you may see a PM10 or PM 2.5 rating on an air purifier, with PM10 indicating larger particles. However. LG claims to have technology that can detect exceedingly small PM1.0 particles. For example, PM10 particles are about a tenth the size of human hair, whereas PM1.0 particles are ten times smaller.

The purifier includes robust air quality sensors that detect airborne pollutants in your house. The PuriCare is equipped with a PM1.0 sensor, which detects the particulate matter (PM) density of airborne particles, and an odor sensor, which detects odors in the air. It measures the density of PM1.0 (super ultra-fine dust), PM2.5 (ultra-fine dust), and PM10 particles (fine dust).

When the unit detects a foul odor, the odor indicator changes from red to orange to yellow to green, the dust sensor is similar, with a color ring on top and an LED in the center that indicates the air quality.

The LG PuriCare Air Purifier (HEPA) has a Smoke CADR of 330cfm and can clean up to 500 square feet five times in an hour. As a result, it is suitable for large bedrooms and living spaces.

The Booster fan is another clever feature you'll appreciate. It has a tilt range of up to 55 degrees, a rotation range of up to 70 degrees and can supply clean air in all directions. It can distribute air as far as 7.3m. Furthermore, the lower section directs air towards the ground, where toddlers and infants enjoy playing. This guarantees that pure air is distributed evenly throughout the space. The device even features a child lock feature. When you activate it, the control panel is disabled. When you disable the kid lock function, the controls become active.

In the unit's base is a replacement cylindrical filter; the three-way hight efficiency filter (HEPA 13) includes a HEPA filter (H-level unspecified), a carbon deodorizing filter, and an ultra-fine particle filter. In everyday use, the filter is expected to last around a year (an onboard indicator lets you know when a replacement is needed). Replacement filters cost S$130 apiece.

Aside from its ability to clean the air, the LG PuriCare Air Purifier operates at a whisper-quiet level. The unit's lowest sound level is 25dB. This is slightly louder than rustling leaves but not as loud as a whisper. So while the machine is relatively quiet at moderate fan speeds, the Clean Booster mode can be pretty loud.

The verdict: LG PuriCare Air Purifier (HEPA)

The LG PuriCare Air Purifier does a fantastic job of cleaning the air in your home or office. It boasts a one-of-a-kind that you won't find in most air purifiers. The purifier is white and has a sleek design that will complement your home area.

The LG PuriCare is a practical, easy-to-use, all-around air purifier on the market. Admittedly, the price is on the higher end when compared to others, at S$899 for the Single tower and S$1,499 for the Double tower, but be assured that you are getting precisely what you pay for.

The LG PuriCare, like most smart products, can be paired with the LG ThinQ app, allowing remote control of the LG PuriCare Air Purifier from anywhere. Users may monitor the interior air quality, modify the device settings, or turn it off and on when they leave the house. They can also receive air purifier status updates and notifications when the filters need to be replaced.
